A UK family’s vacation to St. Lucia ended in tragedy when their 7-month-old son died on the first day of their trip. Tommy Taylor-Mclean was in the island location with his parents, Hannah and Matt, when he fell out of bed. Although Tommy initially seemed fine after the fall, his condition eventually deteriorated. He received treatment at a St. Lucia hospital, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to save him. He died days later and his body was returned to his native London.
Tommy suffered a brain bleed.
An East London coroner was informed that Tommy died on April 2, 2025, in St. Jude Hospital in St. Lucia, according to The Mirror. Doctors learned that as a result of his fall from the bed, Tommy suffered a brain bleed before his death. On April 9, after his body was repatriated to the UK, authorities opened their own investigation into the tragedy. Senior coroner Graeme Irvine reached out to authorities in St. Lucia to learn more about the circumstances surrounding Tommy’s death.
‘This is a tragic set of circumstances,’ Irvine said.
Irvine summarized the office’s findings, The Mirror reported. “They had arrived in St. Lucia on the first of March and early in the trip Tommy had fallen from a bed and injured himself. It seems a post-mortem examination was undertaken in St. Lucia. The full extent of the investigation has not been disclosed to the court. It seems to me this is a tragic set of circumstances and I want to offer my condolences to Tommy’s parents for their tragic loss.”
‘We are totally lost without him,’ Tommy’s parents wrote.

“He was the best little boy and brought so much joy and happiness to everyone that met him,” his parents wrote of their son via their GoFundMe page. “We are totally lost without him, but take comfort in knowing the number of lives he touched in the short time he was with us.”
The couple are raising money to support the hospital where little Tommy died in the Caribbean island. “St Jude Hospital in Vieux Fort, St. Lucia, [is] where Tommy was cared for with such compassion by wonderful doctors,” they shared on the page.
St. Jude Hospital in St. Lucia is still recovering from a fire.
On their GoFundMe page, which thus far has raised more than £13,600, or about $18,000 US, the couple explained that in 2009, St. Jude Hospital endured a fire that damaged the surgical, pediatric wards, and operating rooms. The hospital is operating out of a stadium. Although the family believes Tommy received great care, the hospital lacked the necessary equipment to perform an operation on him.
“Sadly, our baby boy Tommy lost his life,” the couple continued. “But we would love to try and help save other children and babies in the future, in our precious son’s honour. He will forever live on in our hearts and minds. Any donation you are able to contribute would be greatly appreciated and means the world to our family.”
