‘What in the Dystopian Hell?’ $155 Lotion in New Dior Baby Skin Care Line Baffles Parents

You better believe that around here, we take skin care very seriously. We have all the cleansers, serums, and creams to help our faces keep that youthful glow. But when it comes to skin care, at what age do you start to put a good routine in place? According to Dior, parents should begin caring for their baby's skin from day one, and it is launching a brand-new luxury skin care brand to help make that possible.

Baby Dior will be the premier line of skin care for babies. But if you want to get your hands on it, better have that credit card ready. The products cost a pretty penny, but Dior thinks they're worth it.

The brand tried this once before.

Is it a gimmick for babies to need skin care that costs hundreds of dollars? Some people certainly think so. According to multiple news outlets, including People, Dior produced a skin care line in the 1970s but eventually discontinued it.

The New York Post reported that when Dior Perfume Creative Director Francis Kurkdijan joined the fashion house in October 2022, he wanted to revisit the line. Now, his baby is ready to make its debut.

Just like all Dior products, the focus will be on luxury.

When we think of Dior, we undoubtedly think about beauty and glamour. But with a luxury brand also comes a heavy price tag. According to the website, the new line will feature four products, and the cost will rival many adult skin care products.

And if we're being honest, they might be a lot fancier than what's in our vanity.

The packaging gives both fancy and spendy vibes.

On its website, Dior showcases the new lineup of baby skin care with flawless models and sweet bunnies next to its latest skin care creations. First up is “Bonne Étoile.” It is not a perfume but a "scented water" with hints of pear, wild rose, and white musk and retails for $230.

Next, Lait Très Tendre retails for $155 and is a luxurious pear-scented face and body moisturizer. A cleansing foam called La Mousse Très Fondante and cleaning water, L'eau Très Fraîche, cap off the collection for $95 each.

Lots of people are criticizing the new line.

Dior skin care for babies created a lot of ire among social media users who thought that boujie baby skin care is a bit ridiculous. TikToker Maggie Stevens, aka @maggiestevens, told Dior to "read the room." But she sighed as she admitted that wome people will buy the products, which she said is "baffling."

TikToker @laurendeleon asked in a video about the new line, "What in the dystopian hell is this?"

Although Lauren was shocked, one of her followers understood. "Ok so I live in France and baby perfume and skincare is a big thing here lol. So this kind of makes sense coming from Dior lol," she shared.

What's next?

For some people, baby skin care begs the question, "What will they think of next?"

TikToker @betches asked her followers, "Why are we making babies 13 months going on 30 years old? Like, what's next? Baby botox? Baby buccal fat removal? Baby Ozempic?"

Drea, known as @beautifuldrea on the social media platform, also addressed the skin care products on TikTok. She said, "On today's list of 'I'm not really understanding' is this."

She gives her take on the spendy products and shares what many people seem to be thinking: "Just because you can, should you? Could you? Would you?"

We're not sure if we could spend $230 on scented water, but we'll leave it up to you to decide for yourself and your baby just how much is too much.
