Dad Allegedly Took 11-Year-Old to Commit Crime in Stolen Car & Ditched Her When Police Showed Up

Police in Detroit say a dad went on a crime spree and took his daughter along to help. Andre Stephon-Curtis Broadenax, 29, allegedly drove a stolen car to commit a break-in at a second location. With his 11-year-old daughter in tow, the father reportedly broke into the home. Unfortunately for him, the owner’s son quickly thwarted his plan when he showed up unexpectedly.

According to a statement from police, dispatch received a call about 8:45 p.m. about a forced entry in the 600 block of Marquette Drive. Officers showed up at the home, but Broadenax took off on foot. Police caught up to him a short time later and arrested him.

Police alleged the father forced his daughter to help him with the home invasion, and WXYZ reported Broadenax left her at the scene alone to evade police.

Neighbor David Bridges told WXYZ his family heard the commotion next door when police arrived. He said the neighborhood is typically quiet, but the night of the break-in was different.

The father expressed his shock at Broadenax’s alleged crimes.

“As me being a father of eight kids, I can’t see me using none of my kids to actually break into a house or do anything to harm another person because it’s wrong,” he said. “Right now, you could have just lost your life and your child’s, so it’s really sad.”

Prosecutors charged Broadenax with first-degree home invasion, second-degree home invasion, larceny in a building, receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, inducing a minor to commit a felony, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to the news outlet.

The story angered many people who worried about Broadenax’s daughter. They commented their concerns on the police department’s Facebook page.

“I hope someone intervenes on the welfare of the child he left behind. Give her a chance in life,” one person wrote.

Someone else agreed and wrote, “He looks older than 29, praying the daughter be put with some stable family members.”
