Police in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, have released bodycam footage from the home of a pediatrician accused of killing her child. Dr. Neha Gupta allegedly killed her 4-year-old daughter, Aria Talathi, while at a short-term rental in Florida. Investigators say the mother staged Aria’s death to look like a drowning. An autopsy revealed injuries to Aria’s face but no water in her lungs. The findings led to a dramatic arrest.
Doctors pronounced Aria dead at a Miami-area hospital on June 27, 2025. Doctors found cuts in her mouth and bruising to her cheeks, according to a June 29 autopsy report obtained by People. According to a release, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office obtained an arrest warrant and worked with the Oklahoma City Police Department to arrest Gupta on July 1.
Local 10 obtained police bodycam footage from Gupta’s arrest showing police and US marshals attempting to get the mother to answer the door. When no one responded, they broke down the door and went inside. They searched for several minutes and ultimately found Gupta in a dark room behind a closed door. Footage shows police ordering her to the ground and placing her in handcuffs.
Gupta’s attorney, Richard L. Cooper, told People he considered the arrest “extremely violent.” He added there was “no indication that she’s a danger to anyone in the community.” Cooper told CBS Miami at the time of Aria’s death, Gupta and her husband were in the midst of a contentious divorce and custody battle.
“Let’s assume for a second that my client is innocent: She has had the worst tragedy imaginable occur, and then she’s locked up without bond and is missing her own daughter’s funeral. Common decency would dictate that a little more than 1 day’s worth of investigation transpire before making such a dramatic move,” Cooper told CBS Miami.
Oklahoma City Police spokesperson Sgt. Gary Knight told People he did not think police acted violently toward Gupta.
“I have watched the video, but I never saw a violent arrest,” Knight explained. “We certainly had a show of force, just as we would with any murder suspect who was locked in their home, refusing to come out. But as for the arrest itself, she was simply placed on the ground and handcuffed.”
Following the news of her arrest, OU Health released a statement regarding Gupta’s employment status, KOCO reported.
“Dr. Neha Gupta was suspended from patient care, given notice of termination, and was no longer seeing patients at the health system as of May 30, 2025. She has also been given notice of termination by the University,” the statement reads.
Gupta faces a first-degree murder charge. Her next court appearance is August 7, per People.
