Video from the girl's arrest was recently released.
Zander was rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Sadly, he succumbed to the three stab wounds and was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m.
Now, months later, the footage from that arrest has been released. In it, the girl can be seen running out of the house as police arrive. “I’m so sorry! I’m so sorry!” she said, crying, “I don’t know what the f— happened.”
The mother told her daughter during her arrest that she'd 'better pray' her brother lives.
Through more tears, the girl told police, “I’m so sorry, please! I really didn’t want things to happen like this … I’m going to spend the rest of my life in prison.” They placed her in handcuffs at the scene.
In the video, her mother, April Lyda, follows behind her and yells at her daughter, “There’s stab wounds in the chest. You could kill him! You better pray to God he f—ing lives.”
The girl claimed something 'demonic' made her stab her brother.
The girl told her mother, “I don’t know what happened. It’s some demonic sh–.” According to the girl’s mother, her daughter never had behavioral issues until she was “put back on medication she was off for over a year.” Still, she said she never had any reason to believe that her daughter was dangerous. During the interview, Lyda told officers her now-deceased son “would never forgive” his sister. “There will always be issues now between them,” she said.
Later, on the GoFundMe page set up to help Lyda move with her 3-year-old son, the grieving mother penned a letter about her daughter, reported Daily Mail.
“They were raised as God-fearing children & never had behavioral issues until she was put back on a medication she was off for over a year — no it wasn’t psych meds — and I can’t get into details because I’m not sure what all I’m allowed to share just yet,” the letter reads. “Just know my kids loved each other and always got along until the very end there.”
It continues, “They were fighting a lot more than usual but they never physically hurt each other on purpose, that just wasn’t who they were. She has never even yelled at me — she was happy and energetic, loves school, she is not mentally ill & has not been diagnosed with anything. She has been very well behaved the entire 6 months she has been gone and yes I’m very supportive of her and love her very much.”
So far, the fundraiser has raised over $10,000 of a $15,000 goal. Lyda has posted numerous updates on the case and her situation.
Authorities can't release information about the girl's charges.
During her arrest, officers tried to comfort the girl, who at one point prayed to God to “please help me.” Later, she said she just wanted to wake up from this nightmare.
The Tulsa District Attorney’s Office could not disclose any additional information about the case, including which charges had been filed, because she is s a minor. The girl is currently in a juvenile facility receiving treatment.
