What to Know
With only two months left in her pregnancy, Jariah Edwards, 17, took a quick trip from Arizona to California with her family. The teenager looked forward to being a mother, but never got the chance to meet her baby due to an apparent act of horrific domestic violence. On May 30, 2026, Edwards died from a shotgun wound to the head. Miraculously, her baby girl survived following an emergency C-section. Now her ex-boyfriend, Trevon Williams, 21, sits in jail on murder charges.
The shooting took place at a San Diego residence.
According to a news release from the San Diego Police, multiple people called 911 just after 1 a.m. for reports of shots fired. When police arrived at a vacation rental in the 4900 block of Gardena Avenue, they found Edwards unresponsive. Both police and paramedics attempted lifesaving efforts and transported the 32-week-pregnant teen to an area hospital, where doctors performed an emergency C-section, saving her baby’s life. Edwards tragically died, but her baby remains in critical condition.
Police tracked down Williams later that day.
Law enforcement found Williams hiding in the 4900 block of September Street around 3 a.m. They took the man into custody and reportedly learned he had also traveled from Arizona and tracked Edwards down. He allegedly had a semi-automatic handgun on his person at the time of his arrest. According to court documents reviewed by People, police booked Williams on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, possession of a machine gun, and discharging a firearm. He is currently in jail without bail.
Edwards’ death broke her family’s heart.
Loved ones launched a GoFundMe to help support the teen mom’s baby girl as she fights for her life.
“Jariah Edwards was a bright, loving young woman who was just 17 years old and preparing to welcome her first child, a baby girl. She was surrounded by family and friends who cherished her deeply,” the post reads. “Tragically, while on a family trip, Jariah was tracked down by her ex-boyfriend and lost her life to senseless violence. Her death has left a hole in the hearts of her mother, sister, family, friends, and most importantly, her newborn baby girl, who is now fighting for her life.”
They’ve raised nearly $9,000 thus far.
