Choosing someone to look after your child is an unbelievably hard decision. Parents are routinely faced with it, especially in a world that often requires a dual income just to survive as a family. I struggled immensely finding a nanny to watch my child on the days I worked from home. I remember using Care.com and a lot of … interesting candidates … walked through the door. It took no less than 12 interviews to find someone I finally felt comfortable with, and it ended up being a really positive experience for my family and son.
But not all parents are so lucky. Recently, a California family was blindsided after a landscaper captured video of their nanny allegedly beating their daughter while out at a park, Law & Crime reported.
Suzanne Michelle Buhler was taken into custody on child abuse charges on March 16, 2026.
Buhler was reportedly seen at a park repeatedly hitting a young child. Officers reported that they were sent to Markham Ravine Park after a caller claimed they had seen the woman strike the 22-month-old child. Witnesses followed her to the child’s parents’ home, where authorities ultimately arrested her.
Police noted in a news release posted to social media that “the child had visible injuries consistent with the reported assault and was provided appropriate assistance. The child is safe and with their family.”
The parents reportedly hired Buhler on Care.com and initially believed she was doing well with their daughter.
She apparently had been working with the family for months, according to KCRA. “She was really developing our child in a very positive manner,” Curtis Tuttle, the child’s father, said.
“I came out. There were three police officers. The two police officers asked her [Buhler] to step outside of the house,” Curtis Tuttle added, per KCRA. “One officer asked if they could come into my home. I said, ‘Yes, of course.’ She shut the door. The two were out with Suzanne [Buhler]. The one was with me, and he proceeded to tell me what had happened.”
Cutis Tuttle and his wife, Angie, learned how their daughter was allegedly being treated when authorities showed them the disturbing video the landscaper took.
“It was a complete shock,” Curtis Tuttle told KCRA. “If I didn’t see this video myself, I would not have thought this had happened.”
According to the mother, the video apparently revealed that Buhler became frustrated with the toddler after the little girl “pooped her pants.”
Buhler was released from the jail the same day, and since then, Angie Tuttle has made a plea online to help keep her behind bars.
“People have every right to be upset about this. We are upset about this,” Captain Zach Eaton of the Lincoln Police Department told KCRA. “This behavior is not acceptable in Lincoln and our detectives are going to be doing a lot of follow-up to ensure that this person is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The video Angie Tuttle shared on Instagram garnered a lot of attention, including from Care.com, which offered the family its condolences.
“We are deeply saddened by this, and we are holding the family in our thoughts,” the company shared in a statement obtained by . “Safety is a top priority for us. This individual had completed required background checks and had no prior reported issues on our platform. We’ve removed their account and taken steps to prevent them from returning.”
Police have assured locals that this is not the end of their investigation. Because Buhler advertised her child care services on multiple platforms, authorities (and the girl’s mother) are asking anyone with past incidents involving her and their children to come forward.
