Mom Shares Horrifying Day Care Video Claiming Employees Did Nothing To Stop Son’s Abuser

A Colorado mother is claiming she received a terrifying phone call from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office regarding her son’s day care. Paola Coronado enrolled her son at Centro de la Familia Echo Canyon Academy on March 24, 2025, and just a few weeks later, her 18-month-old son Adrian, is the center of a child abuse investigation involving three employees. Coronado shared disturbing surveillance footage on Facebook and wants justice for her young son.

According to a statement from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, Ashlee Davis, 33, allegedly abused Adrian, and other employees knew about it. Additionally, manager Jennifer Bertroch, 54, and director Dana Bocconcelli, 43, allegedly also knew about the abuse and did not report it to authorities. Deputies arrested Davis on April 18 and Bertroch and Bocconcelli on April 19. Coronado claimed in a Facebook post that she didn’t learn about the alleged abuse until days later.

The angry mother shared her story on Facebook. “At 10am Friday I received a call from Mesa County Sheriff Office informing me Ashlee Davis was taken into custody for committing child abuse against my son on Tuesday. This call was very traumatizing for me as I had ZERO KNOWLEDGE of the incident prior,” she wrote.

Coronado claimed the deputy told her the center knew about the abuse. This enraged Coronado, who continued taking Adrian to the facility with no idea someone may have hurt him. “MIND YOU THEY HAD CAMERAS IN THE ROOM. Which they probably looked into but did not report. They ALL allowed me to continue taking my son to daycare the following days,” she wrote in her post.

Coronado shared footage of the alleged abuse, complete with a screaming child. The mother alleged in her post, “For over 10 MINUTES this women had her legs over my son pushing his head down over 5 times. She would grab him so rough and tied him so tight on a blanket to put him FACE DOWN to FORCE him to sleep.”

Per an affidavit obtained by The Daily Sentinel, employees claimed they informed management of the abuse, but the manager reportedly told police she did not see any video and would have escalated the situation if she had. An unnamed employee told police that mistreatment of children is an ongoing problem at the center and they had reported it several times.

The center reportedly provided investigators with a copy of the planned write-up for Davis that claimed she did not follow Centro De La Familia’s policy. Staff is expressly prohibited from restricting a child’s movement, the Sentinel reported.

Coronado attended bond hearings for all three women and claimed in her Facebook post that they received a “slap on the hand.” The women’s employer, Gonzalo Palza, allegedly said during the hearing that the woman would remain employed at the center because they were “exceptional employees.”

Palza shared a letter with families on April 22. KJCT obtained a copy of the letter explaining the situation, and in it, Palza says he is “profoundly sorry.” The employees are on administrative leave as the investigation continues.

“There will be changes with the management structure of the Echo center with direct supervision and training. We believe that Centro does a wonderful job of caring or children, and that this is a regretful and hopefully isolated event,” Palza wrote in the letter.

Coronado launched a GoFundMe account shortly after the incident. She’s raised more than $6,000 of a $10,000 goal thus far.

“They do not deserve to be defended to this extent much less continue to have employment along CHILDREN. I want them ALL to be held responsible,” Coronado wrote on the page.

Davis faces one count of child abuse, according to the sheriff’s office’s release. Bertroch and Bocconcelli each face one count of child abuse, one count of complicity, and one count of failing to report child abuse.
