Nanny Cam Shows Couple Rush To Rescue Napping Twin Babies During Ventura Earthquake

Severe weather and natural disasters have been trending in the news for the last few weeks. From the devastating wildfires in Maui to surprise earthquakes in California, many are counting their blessings that they and their families are safe. One family in Ventura felt the ground shaking and had to think fast to make sure that was the case.

Nanny cam footage of Hannah Everett's twins sleeping shows the ground begin to quake and the parents rushing in to save them. But it's not only the parents' love for their kids that made a difference: The family's dog also played a starring role.

Residents in Southern California not only faced drenching rains from Hurricane Hilary, a powerful tropical storm, but they also felt the shake of a 5.1 magnitude earthquake around 2:40 p.m., according to NBC Los Angeles. The area hadn't seen anything like the tropical storms in decades, so adding the earthquake to the mix made for an exciting afternoon. The center of the quakes was about 80 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Everett felt the quake and moved fast.

Video from the couple's nanny cam shows the babies napping with the family's dog. The ground begins to shake, and the parents rush in to grab the infants. The pup, although seemingly startled, never leaves the babies' sides. He appeared to be the ultimate protector. "We rushed to the room to get them," Everett told ABC 7 LA.

ABC 7 LA shared the clip on its TikTok account, and viewers were stunned. The video has 3.2 million views and 189,00 likes. Commenters were pretty impressed by one caretaker in particular.

"The fact the dog didn't leave the babies until the parents were there ," someone wrote.

"The dog was like "Oh thank gah you're here I —-"I seen them run to the babies ," a comment reads.

"The dog made me tear up ," another follower commented.

"look at the dog look back at the 2nd baby like, 'what about him…OK you got em,'" someone else agreed.

Other California residents shared videos of the wild weather as well.

The weather combination was incredibly rare.

In terms of tropical storms, NBC Los Angeles reported the area hadn't seen one touch down since September 25, 1939. The results of that storm were catastrophic.

The quake itself also was unusual. "This location is interesting to have it there," seismologist Lucy Jones told the news outlet. "This is first time we've had a 5 since 1932 in exactly this location, and even within the Ventura basin."

According to a tweet from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, there did not appear to be significant damage.

"An aerial inspection of Lake Casitas Dam, Matilija Dam and the City of Ojai were completed by the Ventura County Aviation Unit with no issues to report," the tweet reads.
