A Missouri school bus driver is facing felony charges after allegedly assaulting students in his care. The incident occurred May 2, 2025, on a bus driven by 51-year-old Lamar Murry in the St. Louis Suburb of Florissant. While transporting students from the Hazelwood School District, Murry allegedly became angry with several kids in the back of the bus. What they say he did next was shocking.
According to court documents, Murry stopped the bus after school to confront the students. Murry allegedly punched one student in the face twice. Witnesses claim he held a second student face down on a seat and proceeded to punch and scratch him.
Florissant police posted about the incident on Facebook. Officers responded to the scene and spoke with multiple students. They told them about an alleged incident involving a driver onboard the school bus.
“While officers continued their investigation, two male juvenile victims arrived at the Florissant Police Department, accompanied by their parents, to file a police report regarding the incident. The two juvenile victim refused medical treatment,” police explained.
Florissant Police later arrested Murry. He now faces two charges of endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree. Police noted the charges include “the physical assaults as part of the elements of endangerment.” He was booked in the St. Louis County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
The Hazelwood School District released a statement to families obtained by KMOV, reading:
The safety of our students is our number one priority. We are aware of an incident that occurred between a bus driver and several of our students. The behavior of the bus driver is outrageous, unacceptable, and not consistent with any action that we would expect in addressing our students.
Law enforcement is handling the matter.
We cannot comment on individual students, but the district will provide additional support for those students and families, as well as the students who witnessed this, and any other students needing support.
News of Murry’s arrest has caused quite a conversation on the Florissant Police Department’s Facebook page. Many people defended Murry and questioned what led up to the alleged attack.
Someone asked: “Who guarantees the safety of school bus drivers from the actions of students on the bus? We haven’t heard the driver’s side of the story. Why were none of the teenagers arrested?”
“Ok tell us what provoked him,” another person agreed. “You can’t tell me these kids are fully innocent. He should have stopped the bus and waited for police.”
Loved ones created a GoFundMe for Murry, but the fundraiser was removed.
