We’ve seen a lot of cases of child abuse that truly blow our minds. How parents can willfully and intentionally injure their children will never make sense. Today’s alleged abuser did something to her kids that was totally barbaric and could have left them blind. Police say 37-year-old Christie Lashay Williams apparently thought it was fine to spray her children with bear spray. Police arrested Williams, and according to social media, she’s lost custody of her kids.
A witness heard a child screaming.
Officers from the Leeds Police Department in Alabama responded to a call in the 7100 block of Wood Carriage Lane on March 8, 2026, per WBRC. A witness reported that a child was running down the street, screaming for help. The caller said the child’s face was puffy, and her eyes appeared swollen. When emergency responders arrived, they took that child and another one who’d been in the home to an area hospital for treatment.
The children told police a sad story.
They reportedly said that Williams, their mother, sprayed them in the face with what they thought was bug spray, per AL.com. When police searched the family’s home, they reportedly found the bear spray Williams used on her children.
“I think it’s terrible,” Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin told AL.com. “I don’t think you should be punishing your children with a spray that can be used on a bear. That’s not to be used on humans.”
WBRC reported that police arrested Williams on April 2 on charges of torture and willful abuse of a child. If convicted, she could spend up to 10 years in prison.
Williams said she lost custody of her kids.
The mother of two young girls posts on Instagram under the handle @christie.lashay and has a pretty wild account. She apparently works as a truck driver and takes her kids on the road with her. That’s all fine and good, but allowing a toddler to sleep in the glove compartment of a moving vehicle with zero restraints? Unhinged.
Williams’ social media posts shocked people.
On April 8, Williams posted a photo of her mug shot, claiming everything in the media is a lie. When someone asked if she sprayed her children with bear spray, she had an interesting response.
“No I sprayed it in the air while the child was in the house,” she wrote.
This raised many eyebrows, and the questions poured in to the comments section of her post. “Was there a bear in your house ? Why would you spray it in the house with your kids there otherwise ? And who told on you anyway?” someone commented.
“What made you spray bear spray in the air or even in the same facility as you or your children, but especially the children? Please tell me! This has to be good!!!” someone else chimed in.
Others think Williams should just take a break from social media for a while. “Girl js delete the whole page atp, everything on here embarrassing,” one commenter suggested.
There has to be more to this story. If police take a really good look at her social media, we bet they won’t be happy. Her kids deserve better.
