
Months after investigators found a 53-year-old Ohio woman dead, a judge ruled that the teenage girl accused of killing her will face trial as an adult. Sylvania Township mother Nicole Jones went missing in May, not long after her son, 33-year-old Johnathan Jones, apparently took off with Kaitlyn Coones, 17. The pair were reportedly involved romantically, and Nicole Jones seemingly disapproved.
According to police, Coones wanted to be with Johnathan Jones, and his mother posed a threat to their relationship. Coones allegedly told her boyfriend to kill his mom, and when he didn’t do it, she took care of the gruesome deed herself. Now she’s charged with murder.

Coones and Jones were reportedly linked for quite some time.
Johnathan Jones and Coones allegedly began a sexual relationship when the girl was just 15 years old, according to the Sentinel-Tribune. He pleaded guilty in March to charges related to child endangerment and obscenity involving a minor. He was ordered to register as a Tier II sex offender and reregister in Ohio every 180 days. He also was banned from contacting Coones.
In April, Coones allegedly left the foster home where she was living and went on the run with Jonathan Jones.
After moving in with Johnathan Jones, Coones allegedly gave him an ultimatum.
Johnathan Jones reportedly took Coones to the home he shared with his mother, Nicole Jones. The teen allegedly told her boyfriend that she wanted his mother gone and that he needed to kill her, ABC 13 reported.
When her boyfriend didn’t comply with the order within five hours, she allegedly decided to take matters into he own hands.
Coones allegedly attacked Nicole Jones in her kitchen.
Sylvania Township Detective Jake Albright testified in court Friday that Coones snuck up behind Nicole Jones and began to strangle her. She then bludgeoned her with a rock, ABC 13 reported. Johnathan Jones was allegedly in the living room of the home at the time of the attack and did not stop Coones from killing his mother, the detective testified.
After his mother was dead, Johnathan Jones allegedly helped his girlfriend get rid of her body.
Per Albright’s testimony, Johnathan Jones helped Coones collect a tarp and plastic bags to wrap the body and clean the kitchen, ABC 13 reported. The pair allegedly took Nicole Jones’ body to a nearby apartment complex and left it in a dumpster. Police said they do not believe they will ever find the woman’s body.

The pair reportedly fled to Mexico.
Johnathan Jones and Coones left the United States and headed to Mexico, People reported. Johnathan Jones failed to remove the GPS tracking device he was wearing, which linked him to the crime scene and led to his capture in Mexico. Albright testified that Coones said during an interview with the FBI that she killed Nicole Jones, per ABC 13.
Coones’ attorney, Ann Baronas, claims her client is a victim of Jonathan Jones, as he violated a court’s order to have no contact with her, according to ABC 13. If convicted, Coones could spend the rest of her life in prison.
