Teen Allegedly Stabbed to Death by Her Friend Over McDonald’s Sweet-and-Sour Sauce

A teenage girl has been accused of fatally stabbed another teenage girl after an argument over McDonald’s sauces. Naima Liggon and a friend reportedly ordered food from a McDonald’s in Washington, DC, and returned to a car in the parking lot after receiving their order. An argument reportedly ensued outside of the vehicle. The teenage aggressor is accused of stabbing Liggon several times, causing fatal injuries.

Police did not name the teenage assailant, but she was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, WUSA reported. A judge ordered the teen to be held in a juvenile detention center pending a trial. Liggon's family is devastated by her life being ended too soon.

The argument happened in the early morning hours on Sunday.

Three teenage girls were together when the altercation occurred, according to WUSA.

The Washington Post reported that the argument began over a package of sweet-and-sour sauce. The Post reportedly attended Monday's hearing in DC Superior Court under the condition it would not identify the suspect.

Detective Brendan Jasper stated that the girls argued over the condiment, according to the newspaper. Jasper confirmed the argument started among the three girls just after 2 a.m. near 14th and U Streets NW.

The detective claimed video footage of the assault exists.

Jasper said security cameras picked up the fight, showing Liggon and a third girl begin to attack the alleged killer, according to the Post. Jasper claimed the footage shows the altercation and that the assailant did not initially fight back.

But as the teens tried to get into the car, the other teenage girl “lunged” at Liggon with a 7 1/2-inch pocketknife and apparently repeatedly stabbed Liggon in the abdomen and chest.

The alleged aggressor said she is not guilty.

The 16-year-old claimed she only stabbed Liggon in self-defense, the Post reported. She added that the other teens started the fight.

She was charged with second-degree murder while armed and pleaded not to be involved, the juvenile equivalent of an adult’s not-guilty plea.

Prosecutors claim no other weapons were involved in the fight.

According to the prosecution, the Post reported, Liggon and the third girl did not brandish weapons during the fight. “She was the only person who brought a knife to a fistfight,” prosecutor Priscilla Guerrero said in court.

After the altercation, Liggon was taken by private vehicle to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Liggon was not the only teenage fatality last weekend in DC.

She was one of three teenagers killed in the city over the weekend. The city does have a curfew for minors, but it is not strictly enforced, according to Fox 5. Plans for police officers in the area to target curfew violations are set to begin September 1. Plans were made prior to last weekend’s deaths.

Both Liggon’s school and family released statements about the tragic event.

As Thomas Stone High School Principal Shanif Pearl shared in a statement, “This is not the news a principal ever wants to share, let alone the day before we start a new school year. I ask that you please keep Naima’s family, friends, loved ones and our school community in your thoughts and prayers. If you or your child need help with grief counseling or any other assistance, please let me know."

Liggon’s family also released a statement, according to WUSA. It reads, in part, “If I had one message for parents it’s: love on your kids. Make sure they know they are loved when they walk out your door Because you never know if that may be the last time you see them.

"We love Naima and will miss her incredibly and She left a lasting imprint on our hearts," the statement continued. "I pray for our family and her friends and also for the family of the young lady who took her life."

The teen suspect is due back in court Friday.
