2-Year-Old Girl Walked Out of House After Parents Put Her to Bed & Died After Getting Hit by Car

A toddler died when she was hit by a car after walking out of her home and into the street. The girl’s parents had put her to bed, but didn’t realize she had slipped out of the house. Police do not know long she was outside before wandering into the street, or how long she was in the street before the car hit her.

As the family mourns, several questions about what happened still need answers. Police are still in the process of investigating the toddler’s death, so hopefully the family will get the answers they need.

Police were called to the scene on a Friday night.

On Friday, September 13, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Michigan troopers went to the site of a “car versus a pedestrian crash” in Allen Township, the Michigan State Police First District said in a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) on September 14. Upon arrival on scene troopers found a two year old female toddler lying in the road,” the statement continued.

The little girl slipped out of the house without anyone knowing.

Preliminary investigation shows that the child was put to bed by her parents in the home. While the parents were working around the home, the child got out of her bed and walked out of the house,” the statement explained.

The toddler walked out onto the street and was struck by a 38-year-old man driving a 2012 VW Jetta. According to the police statement “Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.”

A first responder was on scene performing life-saving measures, troopers assisted with life-saving measures until EMS arrived on scene and took over medical treatment,” the statement said.

The girl was then transported to Hilldale Hospital. It was at the hospital that the little girl “succumbed to her injuries.” An autopsy on her body is planned.

The police investigation is still ongoing.

Currently, Michigan police haven’t released the name of the man driving the car that struck the child, nor have they released the child’s name. Michigan State Police Lieutenant Rene Gonzalez told People officers are conducting “an ongoing investigation,” and as of September 18, “we have no new information to release.”
