Another day, another complaint from President Donald Trump. Apparently, teasing war and housing thousands of undocumented migrants isn’t enough to fill his daily plate, because now, he has complaints about a portrait hung in the Colorado State Capitol, according to HuffPost. His complaints about the portrait led to its removal. It was officially replaced with a new one.
But don’t get it twisted, because Trump’s new portrait at the Colorado State Capitol is … interesting, at best. At worst, it’s arguably no better than the last painting that resided in the building for years before Trump was elected to his second term. But the president thought it was so offensive and painted in a way that targeted him that he officially had it replaced. And literally everyone on the internet has something to say about it.

Donald Trump approves of his new portrait hung in the Colorado State Capitol.
According to Fox News, Trump was not pleased with the original painted portrait of himself at the Denver building. The news outlet reported that the White House donated a new painting by a different artist, which was hung in its place. Per The Hill, Trump shared on Truth Social that he was not pleased with the portrait and claimed it “was purposefully distorted.”
As a result, he had another one commissioned by a different artist. The only problem is, both the original Trump portrait and the new one share one thing in common – they are both less than flattering depictions of the president. Someone should tell him that, though, because after his new portrait was revealed, Trump took to Truth Social to share his pride at the new image.
“Thank you to the Highly Talented Artist, Vanessa Horabuena, and the incredible people of Colorado – Now on display in the Colorado State Capitol!” Trump wrote, accompanied by a photo of the portrait.
For reference, the new portrait shows a glowering Trump staring down at whoever looks at it. Legend has it that if you walk by the painting in the Capitol, the eyes follow you. OK, not really, but it does have that vibe. The original portrait looked a lot less menacing, but that may be why Trump wanted the change.
Trump is finally happy with his new portrait at the Colorado Capitol — they replaced the one he cried was “distorted.”

But now the real question is:
Which one's actually distorted — the painting, or the man in it? 😂🎨#Trump #PortraitDrama #MAGAArtCritic #ColoradoCapitol pic.twitter.com/1pkJW6mMSE
People see the portrait as just as bad, if not worse, than the original.
No matter how pleased Trump is with his new and improved portrait (and we use that term extremely lightly), others can’t help but point out what they see as another bad portrait of the president. One user on X (formerly Twitter) joked, “Just seen the new Donald Trump portrait. It would appear Doc from Escape From Alcatraz is still accepting commissions.”
Someone else more seriously posted, “Trump’s portrait now hangs in the Colorado Capitol, replacing one he didn’t like. This isn’t about respect or realism – it’s about control. A man obsessed with image now curates history to suit his ego.”
Although some on social media pointed out that the new portrait looks more like Trump’s infamous mug shot, that didn’t stop his critics from pointing out the issues with the replacement portrait.
“What do you think about the new Trump portrait at the Colorado State Capitol?” someone posted on X. “Not really an upgrade from the abomination they had before.”
