Entrusting a child with a babysitter isn't something parents take lightly. Leaving an infant who can't communicate their needs or the quality of care they receive can be particularly scary for parents. And recently, a parent's worst nightmare played out while she was working.
A mother who left her baby girl under the care of a male babysitter had her world turned upside down. The Utah man allegedly grew so agitated when the infant wouldn't stop crying that he smashed her head repeatedly on an elevator wall. Now, the 4-month-old is fighting for her life.

Zachary Walton was babysitting a 4-month-old baby and became 'very frustrated' when she wouldn't stop crying.
On August 25, Zachary Walton, 28, babysat a 4-month-old baby girl at Midvale Road Home, a shelter in Utah. The infant's mother worked a Door Dash shift at the time. A police affidavit obtained by KSL-TV reported that Walton became "very frustrated" when the baby "would not stop crying."
Allegedly, Walton smashed the infant's head against the metal corner of an elevator.
Allegedly, Walton took the baby to the roof to vape and "destress." An arrest warrant obtained by KSTU reported that he allegedly "smashed" the 4-month-old's head "into the metal corner of the elevator where the elevator curves into the sliding doors." Walton allegedly repeated this with "significant force."
In surveillance footage, Walton was allegedly seen carrying the baby's limp body on the roof.
The baby girl was not breathing when Walton made it to the roof, according to the police affidavit, per KSL. In surveillance video, Walton was allegedly seen "carrying the 4-month-old limp victim around the roof for approximately 17 minutes while trying to blow into her face." Eventually, he called the infant's mother and dialed 911 after a roommate instructed him to do so, KSTU reported.
When the Unified Police Department arrived shortly before 8 p.m., they began lifesaving measures and transported the child to a nearby hospital, KTVX reported.

The 4-month-old is in critical condition.
The baby girl was reportedly in critical condition, KSL reported on August 29, per a booking affidavit. Tragically, there is "an extremely high chance that the 4-month-old victim will die." The infant's condition "has not improved and her brain activity is very flattened," according to the affidavit.
Meanwhile, Walton was arrested on counts of attempted murder and aggravated child abuse.
On August 25, Walton was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. He now faces two second-degree felony counts of intentional aggravated child abuse and one second-degree felony count of attempted murder, KTVX reported.
