Mom Sentenced to 130 Years After Killing Her 2 Baby Daughters 3 Years Apart

An Alaskan woman is looking at a long prison sentence for killing her two infant daughters. The woman gave birth to her first child in 2015, and the newborn died at 4 months old. Two years later, she gave birth to a second daughter. That little girl died about a year later.

Now, Stephany Elizabeth Bilecki has been sentenced on multiple counts, including second-degree murder. She is serving a combined sentence of 130 years, but only 45 of those years will be spent in jail.

The 29-year-old’s 4-month-old daughter, Chyanne, died in 2015. The Tri-City Herald reported that at the time, it was believed the infant had died of SIDS. However, “later investigation revealed minor injuries consistent with suffocation,” according to officials.

Bilecki called her boyfriend and mother, telling them the infant had died. She didn’t call 911 until 10 minutes later “just before her mother arrived,” per the news outlet. Officials stated that up until her death, Chyanne was a healthy baby.

She had a second child two years later.

In 2017, the woman had a daughter named Jasmine. When the baby was 13 months old, Bilecki first called her husband, who was deployed, and her in-laws to tell them the little one wasn’t breathing. Just as she had with Chyanne, she “finally” called 911 shortly before her in-laws showed up.

It seems the killings were premeditated.

After Jasmine’s death, officials went through Bilecki’s phone. They found that the woman had been searching websites on her phone “within an hour of her 911 call,” the newspaper reported. Searches included ways “to kill a human with no proof,” suffocation methods, drugs that can kill without a trace, if drowning could show in an autopsy report, “16 steps to kill someone and not get caught,” and other searches, officials noted.

According to an autopsy, Jasmine died because she didn’t have enough oxygen.

The mother pleaded guilty this year.

According to Alaska Native News, Bilecki was indicted by a grand jury in the murders of both of her daughters in August of 2018. In August 2024, she pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder in the death of each child, with the active term of imprisonment agreed upon, and suspended time and probation conditions open to the court.

She’s been imprisoned for the last six years waiting to learn her sentence, according to KTUU.

Bilecki was sentenced to a combined 130 years with 85 years suspended.

“The conduct forming the basis of defendant Bilecki’s convictions shocks the conscience,” Fairbanks District Attorney Joe Dallaire said in a statement shared by KTUU. “Although we cannot pretend that anything will ever make up for the losses suffered by the fathers of these babies or their other family members, I do hope the convictions and the sentences imposed affords some measure of justice to the families of Jasmine and Chyanne and to the Fairbanks community at large.”
