Whoever invented the scarf should be given a medal, like for valor or something equally as valiant. Who doesn’t love a good scarf? They’re comfortable, stylish … an easy way to accessorize and an even more brilliant way to stay warm.
Whoever invented scarves for toddlers, on the other hand, should be given a mental evaluation.
I can deal with skinny jeans and other trendster fashions for the pint-sized among us, but anytime I see a toddler in a scarf, I literally have to sit down with my head between my knees and count to 10. A scarf involving fringe wrapped around the neck of a 2-year-old is enough to send me dry heaving into a paper bag.
There are any number of ways to keep your toddler warm, up to and including turtlenecks. Fine, turtlenecks aren’t as glamorous and sometimes they itch, but they aren’t going to strangle junior on a bucket swing.
As far as I’m concerned, there are some trends that simply don’t mix with the clumsy, tumbling, climbing, and falling antics of a toddler, scarves being chief among them.
You might agree. But I am seriously not kidding. Just last night I saw an adorable little girl about my son’s age toddling towards a bicycle rack with a beautiful jewel-toned bohemian scarf! wrapped several times around her neck. I almost passed out!
The trend doesn’t stop there. Last week I was in the baby department of my local Zara and saw the following:

Scarf?!?!
Oh, sweet Jesus. Is it just me or are you just as bothered by the idea of wrapping long swathes of fabric around your toddler’s neck in the name of fashion?
