It's hard being a new mom (or even an experienced mom to a new baby) and sometimes we do things we know we shouldn't, despite what all the experts say. But this is a safe place to share your secrets (PM me)—we'll never tell.
This Week's Secret:
My daughter is 4 months old and I know the whole, “you are supposed to warm the bottle” nonsense. My mom is always telling me, my friends are always telling me, and on and on. But I give my baby bottles of pumped breast milk directly from the fridge and she doesn't seem to mind at all. So is this really so bad? I feel like I am being some kind of insensitive mom and not attending to her needs in the best way possible, but it also seems like a waste of time if I can just skip the step. Am I wrong? — Anonymous
I never warmed a pumped milk bottle once. And most of the formula moms I know served them room temperature as well. The whole “warming” thing seems kind of like a racket, no?
The thing is, once your baby gets used to taking warm milk, good luck getting them to take milk from the fridge once they are 1 year old and 2 years old and so on. It's good for kids to take the milk without warming if they will. If not, then warm. But if you can skip a step and your baby still eats? Why not?
Do you have any advice for this mom?
