As anyone who's ever been a teenage girl knows, the prom is a big deal — like, a really, really big deal. And the biggest deal of all is the dress. So a #promdressfail is pretty much the worst nightmare ever, as teen Malexa Maeweather discovered when she hired a local designer to sew her a custom gown … and got way, way less than she bargained for.
According to the teen's mother, Dee Lewis, designer Kia Wagner didn't call her daughter until the night before the prom (um, cutting it close!) to pick up the gown, for which she charged $300. And let's just say it wasn't exactly what Maeweather was expecting, as the photos Lewis posted on Facebook prove:
Wait, what?? How?! As Lewis wrote in her Facebook post:
"R u serious.. was i wrong for wanting my DEPOSIT BACK…"
Uh, no. Not wrong at all!

Lewis, who spoke with Yahoo! Style about the unfortunate fashion mishap, explained that her daughter had originally fallen in love with a gown on Instagram — but when it wasn't available, she decided to be creative and hired Wagner to create a similar look. Alas, it was none too similar at all:
"My daughter was devastated and crying when she saw this dress. For a $100 deposit, Kia told my daughter that she would make her something nice with material she already owned and that she wanted to 'play around with the design.' Malexa didn't know anything about what the dress would look like."
We can believe that!
Facebook commenters were equally horrified, with comments ranging from "WTF is this sh*t, I would have got my money back" to "This is ridiculous" to "I would definitely take her to small claims court." And, honestly, all of them are justified.

As the mother of a teenage daughter, I can only begin to imagine the devastation this poor girl felt when this, um, dress (?) showed up. Thankfully, Maeweather was able to repurpose a friend's old dress for the prom — and she looked amazing:
So at the very least the evening wasn't ruined … but still. As of this writing, Wagner had not commented on the gown or offered any sort of explanation (though really no explanation would suffice). We can only hope that this girl at least gets her deposit refunded! Sadly, we doubt Wagner will be getting any more prom dress orders anytime soon.
