This Viral Photo Just Sparked a Huge Debate About Putting Cereal in a Baby’s Bottle

Getting babies to sleep through the night can be a hard battle for new parents. No matter how well you prepare your LOs for bed — feeding, burping, changing their diaper just one last time before they go to sleep — sometimes there are just no simple ways to get babies to drop. The debate on how best to get babies to fall asleep is a hot topic. Which is why when one man posted this hilarious picture of what happened after he asked his brother to "put 2 scoops of cereal" in his baby's bottle before bed (an old trick from when our parents raised us) — and his brother instead gave him a bottle full of grown-up cereal — he didn't realize he had sparked World War III in the comments.

It all started when Tyrese Loyd posted this hilarious picture on his Facebook.

If you didn't have kids, what would YOU think "two scoops of cereal" meant? While the photo did make the rounds for, let's face it, being pretty hysterical, some parents took exception with Tyrese's putting cereal in his baby's milk in the first place.

Why, you might ask? Because the practice of putting rice cereal in babies' milk to get them to sleep longer has gotten a bad rap in the past 10 years. According to Parenting.com, putting cereal in babies' milk "is not advised except in rare instances, such as when a baby has severe reflux and isn't getting enough calories to grow."

For some parents, the idea of putting cereal in their babies' milk is not just outdated -- it's a bad practice that encourages overfeeding babies.

And some parents pointed out that giving babies solid foods, even food as small as cereal, is dangerous to do before they can eat solids.

But that hasn't stopped some new parents, who were fed cereal by their own parents and don't believe the hype.

Obviously, whether or not you choose to put cereal in your babies' milk before bedtime is a personal choice. But at least this post proves we can all agree on one thing: If you do go for cereal, skip the Cap'n Crunch!
