Husband Makes Incredibly Crude Delivery Room ‘Joke’ & Fumes at Wife’s Reaction

Some people simply do not have any tact and their "harmless" jokes can quickly cross the line. Even if they don't see it as rude, sometimes there's just no denying that it is. That's the problem one woman had with her husband during the last moment she should have to be dealing with something like that: while she was being stitched up after birth. Annoyed, she told him to knock it off, and his reaction is even more upsetting than the tasteless "joke" that started it all.

Her husband thought he was being clever when he joked about getting stitched up "tight," but no one in the delivery room laughed -- especially the new mom.

As she explained in her post on Reddit, the mom, who gave birth only days ago, had a typical but less than ideal experience. "After I gave birth, the resident OB had to stitch me up for mild perineal tearing," she wrote.

But it was made worse by the one person who was supposed to support her through it. "My husband was with him and joked to the doctor, 'Make sure to stitch it up tight.'" Yikes.

"The OB kind of just ignored him but the nurse looked appalled," she wrote.

It's no surprise that the "joke" landed like a lead balloon, and the woman, who again had JUST given birth, didn't let it slide. Instead, she quickly shut it down and told her husband, "don't be an ass in front of everyone."

The new mom's comeback left her husband embarrassed and, and instead of feeling bad about his crass statement, he's upset with her for putting him down in front of the doctor.

"After they left he got mad at ME for calling him out. He said I was overreacting to a harmless joke. I told him that I didn't need this kind of drama," she wrote. "Now we’re home, and it’s been rather fractured between us. I haven’t had a full conversation with him since before the labour. He says I’m being way too sensitive and acting like a b*tch."

So, who was in the wrong here?

Online, people had strong opinions and were quick to pick sides. Some were seriously annoyed at this husband and his awful joke.

"Ur husband is being so unreasonable and petty. he was being kinda super gross about your intimate area in front of health care professionals, and calling him out wasn’t wrong to do," one person wrote in the comments.

"NTA. I'm glad you called him out," someone else agreed. "By the way, 'stitching it up tight' is a real and horrible thing."

"That’s an incredibly crude, embarrassing, and insensitive thing to say to your doctor about a very intimate, private topic. What an (expletive)."

But other people thought the mom was being oversensitive since it was "just a joke."

"Yeah, it wasn’t the best timed joke, but I mean I’m sure he was just trying to lighten up the situation," one person wrote. "It was KINDA funny, he doesn’t deserve all of these over the top comments."

"Probably would've made the same joke, and my wife would've reacted the same way," another person added.

"You both seem immature," a third person wrote. "This is a joke every middle-aged man I know has told me about their own children's births. Your husband isn't trying to insult you and was probably trying to just lighten the mood with some humor, however ill-advised."

In the end, the friction between the two will most likely pass. But hopefully her husband won't repeat the offense if there's ever a baby number two!
