Cops Say Stranger Broke into Home, Stole Nothing, & Cleaned It Top to Bottom

Normally, we'd say returning home to find a stranger had just broken into your home would be straight-up terrifying. But a new story out of Marlborough, Massachusetts, has us rethinking that one. (Well, a little.) According to the Boston Globe, homeowner Nate Roman returned home from work on May 15 to a spotless home. The weird part? He certainly didn't leave it that way. But although nothing inside the home had been taken, all of the rooms appeared to have been cleaned — by the best or creepiest home invader … ever?

We don't know about you, but this would leave us straight-up giddy.

Having someone scrub your whole house clean from top to bottom, without even having to pay them or schedule a cleaning or meet with them face-to-face? That is AWESOME.

But I guess it's also a little creepy, too.

A stranger just waltzed into your home, totally uninvited. That person touched your things and (probably) snooped through your cupboards. And OMG — what if they got into your underwear drawer?? (Personal nightmare, right here.)

Roman, 44, says it's possible he left a back door unlocked to his suburban home, though he doesn't actually remember doing so.

That would have allowed the mystery house cleaner to slip in without breaking anything, which he says was the case, because there were no signs of forced entry.

And if you're wondering just how good a cleaning job this stranger did, rest assured — it was pretty dang good.

TheĀ Boston Globe reports that Roman returned home to find the stranger had "neatly made the beds, vacuumed the rugs, and scrubbed the toilets."Ā

"They even crafted ornate origami roses on the toilet paper rolls in his bathrooms," the newspaperĀ reports.

Sorry, what's that now? Origami roses on the toilet paper rolls? Talk about a thing you didn't even know you needed in your life ...

There was only one weird part: Every single room in Roman's house was cleaned — except for the kitchen.

We guess you can't look a gift horse in the mouth, but if you were gonna play phantom maid to a stranger, who would opt to scrub toilets over tidying up a kitchen?

But we digress …

Roman says he found the whole thing "weird and creepy," which we suppose is an accurate description, all things considered.

(But it's also kinda sorta every mom's secret dream, no?)

Marlborough Police Sergeant Daniel Campbell told theĀ Boston Globe that they've never really heard of a situation like this one, which sounds about right. And at least as of now, the mystery maid hasn't made a thing of it elsewhere. (Imagine that, though. A serial house cleaner?)

ā€œWe have not received any reports similar to this in other locations, and we have no suspects at this time,ā€ Campbell said.

As for Roman, he says he doesn't know anyone personally who he thinks would have done this. He does have one idea, which sounds pretty likely: Maybe a housekeeping service accidentally showed up at the wrong address? (Still, what kind of service wouldn't clean the kitchen?)

"Itā€™s funny now, but didnā€™t feel funny at the time," Roman told the newspaper. "I kept the toilet paper roses as souvenirs."
