Teenage Chick-fil-A Employee Lunges Through Drive-Thru Window To Save Choking Boy

A teenager working at the Flowery Branch, Georgia, Chick-fil-A is being heralded a hero after some incredible quick-thinking saved a 6-year-old's life. Logan Simmons was working his Thursday evening shift at the fast-food restaurant when he noticed from the window a boy choking in the back seat of his car. Simmons leapt through the drive-thru window to rescue the boy, making a miraculous save.

The teen noticed that the young customer was choking as the boy's car pulled into the drive-thru window on June 25.

Surveillance footage taken during 19-year-old Simmons' shift shows the teen jump through the drive-thru window after noticing a young boy being strangled by a seat belt tangled around his neck in the back seat of a car, according to People.

“I just jumped out the window and ran straight down to the car,” Simmons explained. “I think it was the quickest option. It was right there and I saw the other car right there. You could see he was turning red and losing pigmentation in his face."

He grabbed a pocketknife and cut the seat belt away from the boy's neck while the boy's mother begged for help.

“I’m still kind of shocked right now myself that all this has happened,” Simmons said.

An hour later, the boy's mother called Simmons and thanked him for saving her son's life, WSB-TV reported. “I do feel like a hero," the teen said.

Simmons later nonchalantly mentioned his life-saving day to his mother, who was blown away by her son's heroic actions.

Simmons' mother, Terri, explained that her son only casually mentioned his amazing actions to her later when he returned home from work. "He'd been home for a couple of hours and he said nonchalantly, ‘I saved a kid’s life today,’ and I was like ‘What?’" she said.

“I’m amazed he didn’t panic. As his mother, I would have panicked. I’d be running around going,  'Oh my gosh! What do we do?'” she said.

Simmons' community has offered him an outpouring of support for his good deed.

tTe teen said that people have been making special trips to his Chick-fil-A location to congratulate him for making the save, CNN notes. "Everyone's been cheering and shouting my name and asking me to come sit with them and stuff," he said. "It's been really nice."

Simmons said he did not receive formal training on how to save someone's life from the fast-food chain, but he figures that his instincts kicked in at the right moment.
