Game Day Ready: How to Prepare Your College Student for Football Games

Fall is football season, which is a huge deal at colleges and universities with division 1 football teams. If your teen is going to a school where football is central to the school culture, they’ll probably be attending a lot of tailgates, game day get-togethers, and games. As a parent, you want to make sure your teen is having fun, but also that they’re appropriately prepared. Here’s how you can get your student ready for football season:

Upgrade their wardrobe

NEW CLOTHING - ALL

Most college students wear school colors and jerseys to the football games, but it’s fun to upgrade your teen’s closet with a few special items. Here are some of our recommendations:

Football earrings

These beaded earrings are the perfect football game jewelry — they’re cute and look great with any game day outfit. Plus, the stud backs are comfortable, and they’re nickel & lead free, so they won’t cause irritation.

Gameday baseball cap

Nothing says game day like this adorable denim baseball cap. This will protect your student’s face from the sun, while also showing how excited they are for the game.

Check stadium policies

Every stadium has different rules, so it’s important for your teen to know about their school’s stadium policies. For example, they may be limited to clear bags, they may only be allowed to bring certain kinds of water bottles, and there may be limitations on signs and posters.

Make sure they stay hydrated

Football games can be long (especially if you tailgate beforehand), so staying hydrated is essential. Encourage your teen to grab a water or sports drink to stave off dehydration.

Pay attention to the weather

Many football stadiums are outdoors, so it’s important to pay attention to the weather. Make sure your student has a good raincoat/poncho for drizzly games and high SPF sunscreen for sunny games.

College football can be so fun, especially if you’re prepared. And parents — try to go to a game with your kid if you can! It can be a really fun family bonding experience.
