When we first look at our children, we cannot imagine them being anything more than perfect little angels. They’d never disobey, or harm, or embarrass us. How could they? That’s what other people’s kids do. But we learn quickly that kids are really put on this earth to test our patience, resilience, and quick-thinking skills. Mom Aurora McCausland knows this only too well.
Her 5-year-old son went to school and told his teacher all about what his mom does when she’s home alone, and it’s absolutely hilarious. Thankfully for us, she shared all the tea on her TikTok, @auroramccausland.
In a video posted in March 2025, McCausland explains that when she went to pick her son up from school, his teacher pulled her aside and said the little boy wanted to talk about what his mom did for work. Then the child proceeded to share, “Mommy makes videos in her bedroom but only when I’m not at home.”
No, they’re not those kinds of videos, and thankfully another teacher chimed in, explaining that McCausland makes TikTok videos. She told Newsweek that explaining what she does, which is typically making cleaning and household videos, can be confusing, so she tries to keep work and school separate.
“I just don’t talk about my job or career at his school; it’s never been a question that comes up, and it can also be hard to explain being a content creator, so I usually just avoid it unless it’s brought up,” McCausland said.
In her video, she shared that there is nothing wrong with whatever content other parents choose to make. But hers isn’t adults-only, as her son unintentionally implied at school.
@auroramccausland so this wasn’t on my bingo card 🥲 #momlife #momtok #sahm #sahmlife #funnyvideo #fypシ ♬ original sound – Aurora
McCausland shared the story with a laugh, and her video went viral with more than 1.6 million views. It’s not just her. Plenty of other children embarrass their parents daily, and they flocked to her comment section with their own mortifying messages.
Here are a few of the best:
One mom wrote, “My son told his teacher that ‘Mom meets people in hotels and spends time with them.’ I’m a tour guide and I work mostly with private families that I usually meet at the hotel where they’re staying.”
This one is just hilarious. “I work in ortho.. my daughter told her teach I steal peoples knees bc she heard me talking to my husband about a knee replacement.”
Another mom wrote, “I’m a dance teacher, which means I work nights. And, at church, my toddler said, in front of God and everybody, ‘Mommy dances at night for the money!'”
See, Aurora – it’s fine. We’re all embarrassed on the daily by the children we love with all our hearts and souls. Just be glad you aren’t the one who listens to all of these tall tales.
One teacher summed it up perfectly, writing, “This is exactly why I tell my students parents’ I’ll believe 50% of what they say happens at home, if you believe 50% of what they say happens at school’ 8yr olds just aren’t great at relaying info.”
