‘I Don’t Deserve Him:’ Mom Credits Dog With Helping Her Learn Her Pregnancy Was at Risk

When a dog is connected to their person, you can’t find a more loyal friend. And with an animal’s acute senses, they’re great to have around in the event that something goes wrong with your health. One mom on TikTok shared an experience where her dog alerted her to an unknown health issue when she was eight months pregnant.

Brittany Welsh, who goes by the name @mamabwelsh on TikTok, just so happened to capture the unbelievable moment on video.

Brittany's dog was trying to signal something, but she didn't get it at first.

In the video, a very pregnant Brittany leans over a counter and into the camera. Her dog, a golden retriever, will not leave her alone. The dog slides under her arm and nuzzles her face. In another clip, he sniffs around her protruding belly.

In the text, Brittany writes, “That one time I was eight months pregnant and my dog was trying to tell me something was wrong and I didn’t realize it.”

Thankfully, Brittany listened to her dog.

Later, he sits watching her attentively. And after that, he slides under her leg, lifting it, apparently elevating her feet or prompting her to get up. Thankfully, Brittany was able to pick up on the clues and listened to her dog’s internal wisdom.

In the final frames, she writes, “Turned out I had a severe UTI that was sending me into early labor … luckily I went in to be monitored and was given a bunch of medicines and it stopped everything.”

Other users shared what their dogs had done for them.

Brittany was sent home several hours later. From the looks of her page, she gave birth to a healthy child. In the caption for the video, Brittany wrote, “I don’t deserve him,” referring to her precious pup.

The comments under the post include stories from many others sharing times when their dogs intervened for the sake of their health as well.

"Mine woke me up at 5 am, nudging my stomach and whining," one user wrote. "I stood up and my water broke."

The doggie intervention wasn't just limited to pregnancy.

Another user shared that long before the third trimester, her dogs knew something was up.

“My dogs are the reason I took a pregnancy test!” the user wrote. “They were acting how they did when I was pregnant with my first.”

But apparently, a dog’s intuition extends beyond pregnancy as well. An animal professional shared a story of a service dog.

“Animals know,” the commenter began. “Worked at a vet clinic and one of our techs had seizures. Her service dog would give her about a 5-10 minute warning of an episode.”
