Right before a CBS6 newscast began on May 21, 2025, pregnant news anchor Olivia Jaquith went into labor. Knowing that she would soon welcome her first baby with her husband, she powered through the three-hour broadcast anyway. Her co-anchor, Julia Dunn, shared the “breaking news” with their audience.
“She is anchoring the news now in active labor,” Julia said. Olivia clarified, however, that she was in “early labor” and urged her co-anchor to “not get carried away.”
But Julia pointed out that Olivia had started timing her contractions.
“Well, there was one, but it’s been a few minutes since then, so we’re still in good shape,” Olivia said live on air.
Julia emphasized that Olivia was the one who made the choice to keep working despite being in labor. At the time, Olivia’s baby was two days overdue. “I’m happy to be here, and I’ll stay on the desk for as long as I possibly can,” she said. “But if I disappear, that’s what’s going on.”
Julia went live on Facebook to document what was happening.
“Olivia’s water broke in the newsroom,” Julia announced. She then encouraged Olivia to explain what she was experiencing. “I don’t know what’s going on,” Olivia said. “It’s my first time.”
She explained that she started experiencing what felt like “period cramps” the day before. Then, that morning, she went up to go to the bathroom and “all of a sudden, stuff just started coming out.“
Olivia explained why she decided to keep working.
Julia then asked Olivia “the question everybody wants to know”: “Why are you out here on the anchor desk with me?”
Olivia said she thought she would be able to make it through a three-hour broadcast. But Julia had a slightly different explanation: “Because she’s a freaking workaholic.”
Julia told viewers that thanks to her “workaholic” co-anchor, they would be able to watch a woman in labor delivering the news.
She made it through the whole show.
At points throughout the show, Olivia referenced the fact that she was about to welcome her first child. During the broadcast, she asked the meteorologist, “If my baby does come today, Craig, how’s the weather?”
She ended up making it through the entire three-hour broadcast. Her co-anchor congratulated her. “Look at that,” Julia said. “Three hours of news, in contractions. I think that’s a first for CBS 6.”
Olivia’s baby has arrived.
The news anchor shared a short update via her Instagram Stories on May 22. “What a wild 24 hours!” she wrote. “And now, baby boy is here. Soaking up kisses and cuddles for now, but will share updates soon.”
