Seven months after former Friends star Matthew Perry unexpectedly died, authorities are continuing their investigation into what went wrong on October 28, 2023. Though his official cause of death was "the acute effects of ketamine," so much remains unknown about why the drug was in the 54-year-old's system when he died. And now, new reports claim that law enforcement is still trying to get to the bottom of it.

There is an 'ongoing investigation' into Matthew's death.

According to what law enforcement sources told TMZ this week, authorities are aiming to figure out "who provided the drug and under what circumstances." The sources claim that both the Drug Enforcement Administration and local police are on the case.
Interviews have already started.
investigators have already interviewed people in Hollywood "who are known to have a history of drug use or abuse" in the hopes of figuring out how to track down the source of the ketamine, TMZ noted.
So far, no arrests have been made.
The medical examiner released an official report in December.
"The cause of death for 54-year-old actor Matthew Langford Perry as the acute effects of ketamine. Contributing factors in Mr. Perry’s death include drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine (used to treat opioid use disorder). The manner of death is accident," the report stated.

Matthew had been getting therapeutic ketamine treatments before he died.

As TMZ pointed out, the Los Angeles County medical examiner's office was able to confirm that Matthew had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to treat his depression and anxiety. But his last treatment had been a week before his death, so the ketamine that had been found in his system that night was not related.
His legacy continues.
His loved ones have shown that they still carry Matthew's memory with them, including Courteney Cox, who played his on-screen wife, Monica, on Friends.
"He visits me a lot, if we believe in that. I talk to my mom, my dad, Matthew," she said in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning this week. "I feel like there are a lot of people that are — I think that guide us. I do sense, yeah, I sense Matthew's around for sure."
