The slow-moving break up between Sister Wives stars Meri and Kody Brown finally seems to have reached its conclusion — officially this time. Fans knew the end was near after it was revealed that the pair had broken up on TLC's Sister Wives: One-on-One special, but Meri confirmed the news of their split on Tuesday, putting the final nail in the coffin of their former marriage.
The reality stars technically put an end to their marriage years ago.
Meri and Kody were married from 1990 to 2014, when the polygamist filed for divorce so that he could legally marry his fourth wife, Robyn Brown.
Sister Wives fans already know that though the pair ended their legal union, they remained together, and still considered each other husband and wife, but the relationship between the two has been deteriorating ever since.
Now, Meri and Kody have *actually* called it quits.
During the TLC special, Meri revealed that she and Kody had taken another step back from their relationship after they'd been growing apart for a long time, hinting that this time the arrangement may be permanent.
It seems that Meri wasn't getting quite the same amount of attention from Kody as his other spouses were, especially Robyn, and she wasn't the only one who noticed something was different — in 2022, both Janelle and Christine decided to leave the marriage, too.
Meri announced their final separation on Tuesday.
The reality star denied previous reports that she and Kody had already ended their relationship and explained that the pair had only just come to this painful conclusion recently.
"There is so much more to be told about this story, and I assure you, my truth will be told," she wrote on Instagram. "But for now, know that there is peace in my heart, and I hold no animosity toward Kody. I am not, and pray that I never will be, in a place where I will enjoy making, or seeing you make, rude and demeaning comments about him."
She doesn't want to be congratulated for getting out of what many see as a toxic relationship.
Meri asked her followers to "step into kindness" in her post, which seems to stand at odds with the way she and some of her fellow sister wives had been treated by Kody's remaining wife in the past.
In fact, Robyn's comments on the special seemed anything but kind when she hinted that the reason Kody's relationships had failed with the rest of the women was because they hadn't taken "care of their relationships," going as far as to solely blame the women for how their marriages ended.
Robyn talked a big talk on the TLC special.
"When I came into this family, I knew and I saw that when there's stretch marks and there's weight gain and there's, like, you know — you're being stagnant in the marriage, or there's fights or there's money problems or whatever it is, he still had this romance going with each of them," she continued as explanation for why she was the last wife standing.
The news of Meri and Kody's split comes more than a year after his relationship with his third wife Christine ended, and a month after announcing his marriage to his second wife Janelle had also ended. For the first time, it seems like Kody is a one woman kind of guy — and it'll be interesting to see what that means for the TLC series going forward.
