A ‘Big Time’ Celebrity Is Set To Take Katy Perry’s Place on ‘American Idol’ Judging Table

Katy Perry has been on American Idol for five seasons, joining the judging table during 2018's season 16. Although she's definitely had some polarizing moments on the show, Katy is set to be replaced by a big-name star but only temporarily.

According to Luke Bryan, some big celebs are set to join him judging contestants.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, fellow American Idol judge Luke Bryan teased that some big-name celebrities are scheduled to take Katy's place on the show.

There will also be someone in to sit where Lionel Richie, the third judge on American Idol, typically does as well.

However, these big names will fill in, not replace, Katy or Lionel.

Katy and her other American Idol judge counterpart Lionel need coverage for their typical roles as judges and mentors on American Idol for a big reason.

They're double-booked and set to perform at a major event next week — the coronation of King Charles III — so that's why there will be some temporary fill-ins.

According to Luke, the fill-ins are 'big time.'

"It's big time. It's big time," Luke said. "The people that we have filling in, contestants have used their songs many, many times. A lot more than mine!"

He didn't want to share too much more than that, however, joking that he didn't want to spill any secrets and risk himself getting replaced permanently.

As for Katy, she's excited to be able to take part in the historic crowning of King Charles.

"I'm grateful I get to go. I met His Majesty to be a few years ago and he named me as one of the ambassadors to his organization, The British Asian Trust, which is an organization that helps fight to end child trafficking," Katy previously shared.

"So I'm also an ambassador for UNICEF, and it really aligned with my values. That's mostly why I'm going, to be an ambassador and to say, 'Hey, this is me from the USA.' No, but it's so cool."

And Katy's partner, actor Orlando Bloom, also is thrilled for her.

"My girl's gonna be singing, that's fun. I'm not gonna make it there, sadly, but she's representing, which is cool," Orlando previously shared with Entertainment Tonight.

"She does those big, historical things. It's wonderful. She sang for the president too. She does that. Who's left?" he said jokingly. "Maybe the pope. So yeah, it's exciting."

The coronation is scheduled for May 6, but the concert that includes Katy and Lionel will happen one day after King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla are crowned at Westminster Abbey.
