Prince Harry Reportedly Refuses To Watch Princess Diana’s Death Play Out on ‘The Crown’

Now that the first part of the final season of The Crown is here, there's one person who likely won't be tuning in: Prince Harry. According to what sources close to the Duke of Sussex are saying, Harry refuses to watch The Crown this season because he isn't interested in watching mom Princess Diana's death play out on screen. After how open he has been about how traumatizing her death was for him as a child, it's no surprise it's not something he's interested in wanting to relive while watching a fictionalized version of the events.

The new episodes focus on the end of Princess Diana's life.

The first four episodes of Season 6 — the show's final season — are here, and they cover Diana's post-divorce life without Charles. This includes her relationship with Dodi Al Fayed, her tragic death in Paris, and the royal family's reaction to it.

It's obviously a dark time in Harry's history, and apparently, he isn't interested in watching Netflix's take on what happened.

A source close to Harry says he's adamant about not watching the show.

"Due to the sensitive nature of content in upcoming episodes of The Crown, Prince Harry has understandably decided not to view this season," the insider told Page Six.

That seems to go for Prince William, too, as other sources have said he has no plans to tune in, either.

Netflix didn't keep Harry in the loop about the show.

The insider said Harry wasn't told anything about the show's story ahead of time and that he was "not consulted by anyone affiliated with the series or Netflix" during filming.

However, that doesn't mean that Harry's harboring any negative feelings towards the show's creators. "There are no ill feelings towards the show’s creators or Netflix," the source added.

Harry is usually a viewer of the show.

During an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in January, Harry revealed that he actually does watch The Crown and even fact checks it while watching.

"Which, by the way, is another reason why it’s so important that history has it right," he said.

It's hard to blame Harry for skipping out on this season.

In his book, Spare, Harry wrote about how difficult this time in his life was at length — and the many, far-reaching ways it impacted his future. It certainly makes sense if he doesn't want to watch a dramatized version of it on TV, no matter how accurate it may (or may not) be to real life.
