Kody Brown made a vow to be a better father in January 2024 — and now he only has two months left in the year to make good on his promise. In the most recent episode of Sister Wives, the television personality celebrated his 55th birthday by reflecting on his “interesting life” and setting some goals that he wanted to accomplish – one of them being to mend the relationships with his estranged children.

Kody’s birthday is on January 17, so the scene was filmed at the beginning of the year. “It’s my 55th birthday today and I’ve had an interesting life,” he said on the show. “I remember five years ago on my birthday thinking, ‘OK, I’m halfway through. What do I want to do for the rest of my life? What do I want to be for the rest of my life?'”
He went on to share that he’d been reflecting with his remaining wife, Robyn Brown, about their “values,” admitting that he’s struggled with his throughout his previous relationship endings with Christine Brown, Janelle Brown, and Meri Brown.
Kody said he carried guilt.
“I lost a sense of direction for my life,” he continued. “There’s a struggle that I have had because I had this big picture that got shattered. But I have a safe, kind and sweet place with my wife Robyn. Then I have tons a guilt because I’m not more involved with everybody else that’s out there.”

Kody revealed that he had envisioned a different life for his family and children, adding that they used to be his 'purpose.'
He also shared that he once imagined that his oldest kids would live across the street from him with their partners and children. “I mean, this is literally what I imagined,” he said. “That fantasy all came out of the affection I felt for my children. To me, it wasn’t a plural-family thing it was just an enjoying-my-family thing.”
He hopes his kids will be open to 'reconciliation.'
Kody hopes his estranged children won’t “reject” the idea of “reconciliation” to get their relationship back to a healthy space. “My new goal will be back to being dad. That will be my new thing,” Kody vowed. “This, today, is my 55th birthday and I have, with God, in covenant form, reasserted myself to from here on out, be the loving father and the dad that has always given me purpose in my life. Onward and upward with the goals in life and making my family whole again. That’s my desire.”
What's his progress?
It appears that Kody still has some work to do if he wants to hold true to his vow. As reported by The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, at least two of his children are still at odds with him. Madison Brush and Mykelti Brown both recently criticized their father, with the latter even saying he’s not the same dad she was raised with.
“I think the show changed him a lot, because he wasn’t like this. He was a lot more like, ‘I understand, I did wrong. I would like to do better.’ That was my dad,” Mykelti said. “The show’s morphed him.”
