Hungry Toddlers Lead Police to Bodies of Their Parents, Who Died in Suspected Murder-Suicide

Three young children in Houston were found after their parents died in an apparent murder-suicide. Details are still emerging about the case, but the parents had likely been dead for an extended period before the children were found. Police did not reveal how the children managed to get themselves out of their apartment, but it seems neighbors saw them outside. Thankfully, the children were unharmed in whatever led to their parents’ deaths. They are now safe and will be taken care of.

Police were called to the apartment complex around 5 p.m. August 18, 2025, KHOU reported. There, they found three children, ages 3, 2, and 1. Neighbors told the police the children had been searching for food. They had also been sitting for hours outside in the heat.

“The little ones, you could tell they were hungry and thirsty,” neighbor Deborah McMillan told KTRK. “The oldest one is who hurts me the most because she was vivid in details of what she had witnessed with her parents.”

Officers spoke with the children, who informed them their parents were dead inside the apartment. Police found the couple both had gunshot wounds. Houston Police Department Lt. Larry Crowson told the news station it appeared the man had shot the woman before killing himself.

The names of the couple, who are both 26, have not been released.

“She came over a few times, asking to use the phone. I would talk to her, try to tell her, ‘Hey, it’s not worth it,'” McMillan said about the mother, per KTRK.

According to Crowson, the parents were likely dead for about 24 hours, KHOU reported. The children were uninjured and are now living with their grandmother. Child Protective Services is involved in the case.

Police say the investigation is ongoing. Currently it is unknown whether authorities will publicly release the names of the parents to aid in the investigation.
