Ever since Kate Middleton shared the first glimpse of her new hair color through a car window a couple of weeks ago, fans have been clamoring for a better look at her makeover. But now that it’s here, some royal watchers are singing a different tune. On Thursday, Kate showed off her blonde locks during a public outing with Prince William, and let’s just say that people have a lot of feelings about this transformation.
On Thursday, the couple made a stop at London’s Natural History Museum to meet with school children and learn about the museum’s National Education Nature Park program. While there, they got caught in the rain, but Kate’s always game for weather changes and didn’t seem to let it phase her.
What stood out most about their appearance, though, was Kate’s hair. This might be her biggest (and boldest) transformation ever, and so far, people have a lot of strong opinions about the change.
Some people simply weren’t a fan of the lighter color on her — after all, for most of her time as a senior royal, she has been known for her brunette hair.
“Don’t like the new hair color. The darker hair was more flattering,” one person wrote, while another added, “Tell these underground people you need toner on your color.”
Others are absolutely convinced that this isn’t Kate’s actual hair — it must be a wig. One commented, “unless that’s just absolutely atrocious editing on her hair, that is definitely a wig.”
So far, Kate hasn’t commented on her hair … not that a topic like this is something she’d ever speak out on anyway. Never complain, never explain is the family’s motto for a reason.
And regardless of the negative comments (and the weather), it looks like she and Will truly enjoyed their outing, according to a video that they shared on their official Instagram account.
It’ll be interesting to see how long this hair color sticks around for Kate. It might be a bit polarizing for now, but it might grow on her fans after it’s not quite so new.
