We don’t know about you, but sometimes it feels like our kids never eat their lunch at school. Maybe they don’t like what we pack, or they’re talking too much. But the old “They never give us enough time” excuse is bologna. Some kids are just super picky, and when we finally find something they will eat that’s nutritious, it feels like hitting the jackpot. A mom in the United Kingdom felt that way, but when her son’s school rejected the snack she packed, she became very irritated.
Rachael Elizabeth shared her story on TikTok, and we must agree that this doesn’t make much sense. Rachael packed her son, George, a very healthy lunch. He had a sandwich, chips, yogurt, cucumber, and hummus for lunch. For his snack, George brought a banana and crackers with cheese.
Do you see the issue? Nope, us either. But apparently it was George’s snack that caused a problem.
“George is a fussy eater. So this is his snack. He’s had this snack for forever. Three crackers with a little bit of cheese on and butter, and they won’t let him eat his snack because it’s got cheese on it,” Rachael said in the clip.
“He’s allowed to have cheese on his sandwich in the afternoon, but he can’t have cheese on his cracker for his snack,” she added.
@rachaelelizaabethh Why can’t he have cheese on his crackers? 😂🤦🏻♀️ #pov #mumlife #schools #nothappy ♬ original sound – Rachael Elizabeth
Um, what? That makes zero sense.
Rachael said the whole thing really upset her. “I’m actually fuming,” she admitted. “I am fuming.”
She went to pick up George from school so he could come home and eat in peace. Rachael questioned whether she overreacted to the situation but felt very frustrated with the rules.
“Why do schools think they can just control everything? Why do they get so much control over that?” she asked in her video. “I just think it’s got out of control. Schools have gone crazy.”
The comment section overwhelmingly agreed. Rachael didn’t send her son with anything dangerous or unhealthy. This whole thing seemed totally out of line to many people.
One person suggested parents audit what the adults eat for lunch. “Can we go in the staff room and check what teachers are bringing for lunch to make sure its acceptable,” the commenter wrote.
Another questioned what the school deemed healthy if cheese doesn’t count. “Cheese is high in calcium and protein,” the person shared. “Perhaps the teachers need lessons in nutrition before they stop kids eating nutritious food.”
Plenty believed Rachael should choose what George eats, not the school.
“It’s your child you feed him what you want,” a mom wrote. “These schools are getting away with way too much now. It’s ridiculous. Thank god mine are adults now.”
We’re with Rachael. It’s one thing if you’re filling your child with nothing but junk food and it’s affecting their behavior, but that’s not what’s happening here. Let the kid eat his cheese in peace.
