I’ll be the first to admit that I do not have class or graciousness in mind when I insult someone or when a stream of swear words spills out of my mouth. I’m just not wired that way.
But for those who do want to be a little less crass, but still pretty cunning, in their insults, one user on TikTok, Mads Mitch, shared a video of her “classy insults” that you can make a part of your regular, everyday vernacular.
For Mads, though, classy insults are more than just saying something in a way to not sound totally inappropriate or rude while also insulting someone. She explains in her video that a classy insult is “an eloquently worded insult designed to go right over the heads of whomever you’re insulting.” OK, sign me up for the crash course.

The ‘classy insults’ are actually pretty clever.
Anyone can throw a four-letter swear word at their enemy. Like I said, I am guilty of doing just that, along with plenty of other clever, but totally inappropriate, combinations of other swear words.
For mads, saying other things to insult people is a stronger way of saying what you want to say without needing to resort to the usual insults.
Mads also has specific classy insults for specific situations. For someone who takes pride in not reading for fun and who basically won’t shit up about not reading and not enjoying the idea of cracking open a book for the heck of it, you might say, “So you just read to maintain the skill?”
According to mads, this is a perfect way to insult someone who may be unintelligent enough to not even realize it.
But you’ll know. And that’s the fun of it.
Another situation to throw a classy insult at someone might be for a person who says something ignorant or incredibly outdated. Mads says in her video that you can say to the person, in complete sincerity, “Oh yeah, I used to think like that. And then I grew out of that phase.”
Someone commented on Mads’s video to say, “Classy insults are hard because I want them to KNOW.” I feel that in my bones, because when I take the time to insult you, I want you to know that I have verbally wronged you.
But again, these classy insults are a tier above standard insults and swear words.
Someone else praised Mads for using her big ole brain to think of clever insults like the ones in her video.
“It’s a thinker, and that’s what they’re not doing enough of,” they wrote under the TikTok.
Other people commented to ask for specific classy insults to help them in their everyday life, from insulting an annoying coworker to giving a great one-liner to a guy someone might not be interested in. If you take a cue from Mads, though, it’s all about making things up on the fly, or having them in your arsenal, to throw people off or at least confuse them.
They might feel offended, but they also won’t really know why, so it gives you the perfect cover of plausible deniability.
