What to Know
Kate Middleton has always been open about how much she loves nature, but her latest tribute to the great outdoors has earned her more flack than praise. On November 15, Kate shared the latest video in her “Mother Nature” series on Instagram — this time, dedicated to the season of autumn — and let’s just say that not everybody found it as meaningful as the Princess of Wales may have hoped.
Kate narrated the new video, titled “Autumn.”
The short video shows scenes of fall in the U.K., alongside clips of Kate herself spending time cooking outdoors with a group of children and chef Gill Meller.
“As the days grow shorter and the shadows grow longer, the energy of summer withdraws into autumn. This is the season for reflection and refinement,” Kate says in a voiceover. “Trees shed their canopies in preparation for winter, just as we too learn to let go of what is no longer needed.”
The message of the video isn’t sitting right with some critics.
In the RoyaltyTea subreddit, more than one critic is talking about how out of touch Kate seems in posting this video.
“This season’s ends with ”Endure.’ From a woman who just moved into her 3rd or 5th fully decked out, decorated in custom opulent fabric, no expenses spared home, on hundreds of acres,” the original poster wrote.
Plenty of people agreed with the OP, including one commenter who compared her to Princess Diana.
“That’s so ridiculous. The former Princess of Wales used to fight against taboos, fighting for aids patients, against the landmines, for the leprosy patients, against mental health taboos, for the homelessness, etc … While the current Princess of Wales does videos where the talks about Mother Nature,” they wrote.
Others called the video “vapid and self indulgent.”
“So vapid and self indulgent — perfect reflection of Kate. I’m fascinated that she has approval to produce these, it’s so cringe,” one naysayer added.
Another Redditor said, “Yes Kate, Autumn is indeed a season. Thank you for your astute observation, we wouldn’t have known about the word endure if not for you either.”
Some had a much more positive reaction.
On the actual Instagram post of the video itself that was shared by Kate and William’s official account, the comments are far more positive, with many people praising her for her new project.
“This is what I needed to hear,” one of their followers wrote. “Thank you.”
Are people really split on this issue, or are the royals filtering their comments?
