What to Know
Influencer Anna Saccone has been sharing her life as a mom of four on social media and YouTube for years. So while she might be used to the negative comments that she receives from her critics online, there’s one person who really doesn’t appreciate what the trolls have to say: Her 8 year old daughter.
Over the years, Anna has amassed more than one million subscribers on her YouTube channel, and just as many followers on Instagram. It’s inevitable that some of the many comments she receives on her posts aren’t going to be kind, but according to what she said during her appearance on the We Need to Talk podcast, one of her children, Alessia, isn’t willing to stand for it.
“So, she’s 8 and she’s left comments,” Anna said on the podcast.
“‘How dare you say this about my dad, they’re not abusing me!'”
“The kids have got older, and they’ve … learned to read,” she said in response to a question about how her family feels about the kinds of comments they receive online. “And they’ve learned how to navigate things, and they’ve seen stuff.”
Now, her kids watch their family’s YouTube videos as a “comfort thing,” and that’s how they discovered that Alessia was commenting on posts.
“It’s so cute. It’s so sweet,” Anna said. “But also, it’s not right. She shouldn’t have to do that. She shouldn’t have to feel the need to defend her parents like that.”
Those who commented on the post seem to agree — and some are horrified that Alessia is in the position to read those comments from total strangers in the first place.
“Pretty sure her 8 year old shouldn’t be on the internet unsupervised commenting on stuff,” said one comment.
Another commenter wrote, “An 8 year old should never have a platform ever. But let’s laugh about it. Can we cancel that family already?”
Others were more sympathetic toward Anna.
One commenter wrote, “Such a powerful and heartfelt conversation. Thank you, Anna, for being so open, brave, and real. Your honesty and kindness always shine through — you inspire so many of us.”
