What to Know
In 2021, Alec Baldwin was part of a tragic incident on the set of his movie Rust that led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, and later, involuntary manslaughter charges for Alec.
While the charges against the actor were ultimately dismissed, that time in his life wasn’t easy, and during a new podcast interview, Alec revealed that it actually put his health into a serious decline.
The charges against Alec were initially dropped, but later refiled.
Alec was working on set and holding a prop gun that actually discharged, which killed Halyna and injured the movie’s director, Joel Souza. In 2023, charges were first filed against Alec and dropped later, but in early 2024, a New Mexico grand journey indicted him and refiled on involuntary manslaughter charges, but later that year, those charges against Alec were dismissed.
Finding out that the charges had been refiled, even for a matter of months, really took a toll on Alec both mentally and physically, as he shared during an appearance on the podcast Dopey: On the Dark Comedy of Drug Addiction.
He said he felt the “deepest pain” for his family during that time.
Alec and wife Hilaria Baldwin share seven children, along with his older daughter, Ireland Baldwin, from his previous marriage to Kim Basinger.
“The people I was most concerned about, the people I had the deepest pain for, were my wife and my kids,” he said. “My kids would see me sitting in a corner, I couldn’t even move. There was a point in time where I took a nap every day for a year, right after they announced they were going to raise the charges again.”
“I don’t want to dwell on this, I just want to say that this was very painful for my wife and my family, my sisters and brothers and so forth, my colleagues. And I can tell you, it broke every nerve in my body, spiritually, financially, work-wise, my career, my wife, my kids, my friends, my health,” he continued.
He believes that the experience has taken 10 years off of his life.
Alec confessed that he was even dealing with suicidal thoughts during that time, but kept managing to find the strength to “wait one more day.”
“I mean, what it’s done to my health,” Alec said. “I mean, if I told you what my health conditions have been since October 21st of 2021 — it’s taken 10 years off my life. It’s taken at least 10 years off my life.”
