Smiling Photo of Anna Duggar Outside Court Is Resurfacing & People Are Still Horrified

It’s hard to believe that already more than four years have passed since Josh Duggar‘s trial that ultimately ended with the former reality star being convicted on charges involving child sexual assault material (CSAM). His wife, Anna, has made it clear that she’s standing by him, no matter what — something that was pretty clear when she appeared by his side at his trial, despite being heavily pregnant back then. Now, a photo of the two of them from that time is making the rounds again, and people are still completely baffled that she’d look so happy during such a serious occasion.

The photo of Anna from Josh’s trial has resurfaced on Reddit.

Why did she smile?

The post shows a still from a news report that was filmed during Josh’s trial in 2021. While a trial like this was often hard to stomach as the news came out from reporters who were present in the courtroom, it had to be at least doubly stressful for Anna and Josh, knowing what the future may hold.

Not only is Josh smiling as he and his wife stroll out of the court house, but Anna is, too, while wearing a cheerful pink dress that shows off her baby bump. At the time, Anna was pregnant with the couple’s seventh child, daughter Madyson.

People are totally horrified that this was her reaction that day.

While this footage certainly stirred up a lot of feelings when the trial was ongoing years ago, looking back, people don’t seem any less taken aback by it.

“She thinks that supporting her man no matter what he did is securing her place in heaven,” one critic wrote.

One commenter had a theory about why Anna looked so happy that day: “She’s so brainwashed to smile and look happy all the time I don’t think she bothered to realize that it might look bad in this situation.”

Some believe Anna was truly numb to it all.

In response to one person who guessed that Anna had “no idea what’s going on,” another responded, “She’s been so indoctrinated into supporting her husband i dont think she understood the gravity of what was happening.”

Given that she’s always defended Josh and, as far as we know, still stands by him today as he continues to serve out his sentence in federal prison, these theories might not be too far off. Maybe at the time the photo was taken, she truly believed that her husband would be vindicated and walk free  — even though the rest of us following along at home definitely knew better.
