If you need a few reasons to prove that Karoline Leavitt has no concept of what the average American deals with when it comes to affording everyday things, I can give you 990 of them. According to one user on X (formerly Twitter), the press secretary wore $990 Gucci slipper shoes when she traveled to Texas with Donald Trump to speak on the affordability crisis in the United States.
If that isn’t enough, there are plenty of other items in Leavitt’s wardrobe that show how much she is willing to spend on her look. No one is saying that she needs to suffer because most Americans are dealing with the struggle of affording rent or mortgage, food, childcare, and other necessities. But come on, who needs shoes that are the actual cost of some Americans’ rent or mortgage payments?

The user on X shared a photo of Leavitt with the shoes next to an image of the Gucci slipper shoes presumably from the official website where people can buy them.
“White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt wearing $990 Gucci Princetown slippers during Trump’s trip to Texas,” the user wrote. “She has no clue how Trump’s affordability crisis is impacting Americans.”
Sure enough, a quick search on the Saks website shows Leavitt’s $990 shoes that she felt compelled to wear during a time when you might expect her to be a bit more aware of the issues others are facing. Or, you know, not aware at all. While some of Leavitt and Trump’s supporters replied to the X post to defend Leavitt and insist that she can wear what she wants, others aren’t wild about a world in which the White House openly shows such little care when dealing with the American people.
“I hate this timeline,” someone wrote on X in response to the photo. “Is there another one I can side-step into with my bare feet?” Same girl, same.
Someone else wrote, “She knows, she just doesn’t care!” Which, to be honest, is entirely possible at this point.
Her designer wardrobe has been a topic of conversation before.
Before someone pointed out Leavitt’s expensive designer shoes, others were quick to post on social media about her designer clothes she has worn for the entirety of her time in the White House. In March 2025, the Irish Star reported that some of Leavitt’s outfits and dresses cost as much as $1,000. At one point, she was seen in a top that cost well over $600.
Leavitt has also been seen with designer bags that typically cost thousands of dollars. No one is saying she needs to dress like a pauper while working in the White House. But a little decorum and self-awareness would go a long way. Though at this point, that might be asking a bit too much from her.
