Fans Are Calling Out Joy-Anna Duggar for Putting Aesthetic Over Her Daughter’s Happiness

Joy-Anna Duggar has always been a low-fuss kind of girl – both when it comes to her home and how she raises her kids. But now, some of her critics think she’s caring a little too much about the wrong things. After she shared the reason why she decided against buying her daughter a very cute doll bed in a post on social media, people are coming for her, accusing her of putting her aesthetics over her what would make her kids happy.

Joy shared a photo of an item she decided to leave behind instead of buy.

Good grief just buy her the damn doll bed!

Though Joy’s Instagram Stories post has since expired, critics on Reddit captured a screenshot, which appeared to show a photo that Joy shared from a recent trip to an antique shop. In the picture, we see a wooden baby doll bed that also rocks — something that many little kids would enjoy having for their dolls.

But as much as she knew her 5 year old daughter, Evelyn, would love the bed, she decided against bringing it home with her.

“This adorable baby doll bed/rocker,” Joy wrote in the post. “Only $25 but didn’t grab it because it didn’t match the wood in Evelyn’s room.”

Now, she’s being raked over the coals.

Many, many Redditors think Joy is taking the aesthetics of her young daughter’s room a little too far — does it actually matter in the end if a toy matches the furniture that’s already in there?

“I feel so bad for Evy because it’s clear this room is going to be Joy’s preferences for her room, instead of Evy’s. First Joy doesn’t let her keep a hot pink wall because it wasn’t [neutral] enough. And now she won’t give her a doll bed even though it clearly is a [neutral] wooden object,” one commenter wrote.

Another said, “Imagine caring more about your aEsTHetic than your child’s happiness,” adding that Joy was displaying “peak Jim Bob” behavior for this one.

Others pointed out that she still could have bought the bed and used her DIY skills to paint it whatever color she wanted. After all, Joy and her husband Austin are known for flipping houses…

She has always been a bit of a “beige mom,” though.

From what we’ve seen of her new house so far, that doesn’t seem to have changed recently — lots of neutral tones and very minimalist decor is being used here.

Maybe it’s a response to Joy’s own childhood, which had to have been overwhelming for her as she grew up with so many rules and 18 siblings. After living in chaos, maybe it’s easier for her to keep everything in her environment as simple as possible.

Still, she totally could have made that bed work for Evy and her dolls if she really wanted to!
