DoorDash drivers find themselves in many different places every time they work, and they never really know what the day will bring. Because of the nature of their business, it’s essential they stay aware of their surroundings for their own safety. A North Carolina DoorDash driver was just doing their job when they noticed a foul odor at a residence. Concerned, the driver contacted police. Little did the driver know they’d just come across the scene of a crime and led police to a decomposing body.
Police found a body hidden in the closet.
Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department went to the Peppertree Apartments for a welfare check on March 10, 2026, after receiving a call from a DoorDash driver, according to WSOC-TV reported. Once inside the apartment, police found the body of 26-year-old Evelin Carolina Enamorado-Cisnado.
Her lover, Lhis Brito-Costa, 23, is accused of shooting and killing her and then stuffing her body in a closet. Police said she was covered in towels and blankets and had begun to decompose by the time they arrived, WCNC reported.
Brito-Costa allegedly became jealous of Enamorado-Cisnado dating someone else.
According to court documents obtained by WCNC, Brito-Costa told police that she shot Enamorado-Cisnado when she learned she was involved with someone else. A Facebook post by a family member claims Enamorado-Cisnado had several gunshot wounds. She also alleged her niece was left inside the house dead for three days before the DoorDash driver called the police.
“It’s been a very sad thing for the entire family. A harmless girl and who didn’t mess with anyone and it hurts so much in my heart and how that miserable woman could take her life without mercy and just because my niece didn’t want to be with her anymore,” Guadalupe Cisneros wrote on Facebook.
The couple posted an engagement video in January 2026.
Enamorado-Cisnado shared a video on Facebook on January 1 that appears to show Brito-Costa proposing. She drops to one knee and seems to ask Enamorado-Cisnado to marry her using sign language. It’s unclear whether one or both of the women had a hearing impairment. Several people in the room cheered the pair on and congratulated them.
“My first time but him to be give me ring, because family and friends too I’m with him my husband thank you so much December 31 2025 be soon new year 2026 be tomorrow Jan 1 to Luis Y Evelyn,” Enamorado-Cisnado captioned the video.
Police arrested Brito-Costa, who’s in custody being held without bond.
WCNC reported Brito-Costa was in the United States illegally. In addition to murder charges, she’s also under an ICE detainer.
The couple looked so happy in their engagement video. We can’t help but wonder what went wrong. No matter what it was, no one deserved to die.
