9-Year-Old Nonverbal Girl Who Wandered Away From Home Barefoot Found Dead Just Over 24 Hours Later

Jenny Dim, a nonverbal 9-year-old girl, disappeared from a Kentucky home on March 13, 2026, without a trace. Her family contacted the police, and a large-scale search for Jenny began. She was last seen wearing a mint blue jacket and pink headphones, but was not wearing any shoes. Family and authorities were worried about the multiple bodies of water nearby and searched the area extensively. Sadly, the Kentucky State Police confirmed Jenny’s death on March 14, just a day after her disappearance.

Witnesses last saw Jenny walking in the early evening.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office reported the last time anyone saw Jenny was around 5 p.m. on March 13, near a residence on Macintosh Lane in Florence. The Kentucky State police issued an IAN Alert, which they use when children under 18 with autism or mental illness go missing and could be in danger. In addition to the police, Boone County Water Rescue and Hamilton County Search and Rescue did their best to find Jenny.

Investigators found Jenny’s body in a pond.

The Kentucky State Police canceled the IAN alert on March 14, and made an update on social media.

“Tragically, this is not the outcome we had hoped for. We thank all the first responders, the public, and the media for all their effort during this investigation,” the police shared.

Jennys family thanked the community for their support.

Julie Par, Jenny’s aunt, shared gratitude on behalf of the family in the Boone County Neighborhood Group 2.0 on Facebook.

“To our community, and to the people from across the state and around the country who stood by us from the very beginning until the end, thank you. The number of people who showed up to support us and volunteered to search from dawn until dusk truly amazed us,” Par wrote.

“The love and support we have received mean more than words can express. We can never repay you, but we pray that God blesses each and every one of you,” she added.

The community has wrapped its arms around the family in support.

Many shared kind words with Jenny’s family on Par’s Facebook post that truly show how supportive communities can be.

“So sorry for your loss, some souls are too perfect for this crazy world and I believe Jenny was one of them,” someone wrote. “I am sure she is running, laughing and playing on those golden streets. May god wrap his arms around you all in this time and give you strength and comfort. Praying for you all.”

Another person agreed and felt humbled by their community: “Praying the peace of God falls on each and every one of you during this extremely difficult time. You’ve been in the prayers of every person in this community. Seeing so many people come together for little Jenny was really amazing to witness yesterday.”

They also created a GoFundMe that’s raised more than $13,000. According to the fundraiser, Jenny leaves behind her parents and an autistic brother. The GoFundMe will help aid with her final expenses and the ongoing cost of treatment for her brother.

This will not bring Jenny back, but helping to ease the financial burden will undoubtedly come as a relief to her family.
