What to Know
Wimbledon may have come to an end on Sunday, but people are still talking about what Jennifer Lopez wore to the match. While she went with a pretty timeless, neutral look, Jennifer opted to accessorize with a truly oversized hat (and even the word “oversized” cannot fully convey how big this hat was).
Now, people are calling J.Lo out for breaking etiquette rules, especially since she was seated in the highly coveted Royal Box.
Jennifer’s hat basically had its own zip code.

Jennifer could be seen in the Royal Box sitting next to Tom Hiddleston (and a row behind Andrew Garfield) in a wide-brimmed hat that matched her wrap dress. Don’t get us wrong — Jlo looked absolutely fabulous, as she always does.
But as you can see in the photos, the hat was truly large, and there’s no doubt that if she stood up, the people behind her would really struggle to see the court themselves. Not to mention the fact that she actually was breaking the dress code of the Royal Box by wearing it in the first place…
Technically, she was breaking rules by wearing that hat in the first place.
Wimbledon makes the guidelines for guests sitting in the ultra exclusive Royal Box pretty clear on the tournament’s website: “Ladies are asked not to wear hats, as they tend to obscure the vision of those seated behind them.”
However, as People points out, the rules are known to be a bit more relaxed when the summer temperatures are in the extremes like they have been during the heat wave that England has been experiencing over the past few weeks, so it’s understandable that people sitting in direct sunlight would want a bit more cover.
JLo is hardly the only celebrity to have broken this rule. In fact, when Kate Middleton herself sat in the Royal Box over the weekend, she, too, wore a hat for part of the match, and considering what sticklers the royals are for etiquette, it’s probably safe to say that Jennifer is in the clear this time.
Hopefully, that hat was worth sparking so much backlash.

Regardless of the temperature outside, plenty of people still thought that Jennifer should have erred on the side of caution and skipped the hat entirely (or at least chose to wear a much smaller one). Not just because of the dress code rule, but also because of the very valuable real estate the hat was taking up for everyone who was seated behind her.
One person replied to Wimbledon’s post about JLo on X, writing, “Isn’t there a dress code for guests anymore? Imagine if everyone there came with such a stupid hat?”
Another wrote, “Jenny from the Block, blocking viewers.”
Okay, that’s pretty clever.
