A brother and sister, just being kids, died in a tragic accident in Colombia. Saori Guevara Tiller, 8, and her brother Darian, 5, were playing at their home on April 4, 2026, while their parents went shopping. When Brayan Guevara Trivino returned about 20 minutes later, he did not see Saori and Darian. He desperately searched and ultimately found the children inside a freezer in the family’s home. The children’s deaths remain under investigation, but it appears they were playing inside the appliance and the lid closed on them. Sadly, Saori and Darian suffocated to death.
Saori and Darian loved to play hide-and-seek.
Trivino told El Tiempo his kids often played hide-and-seek, so when he did not see them after returning home, that’s what he expected to find. He ultimately located the children inside the freezer around 7 p.m. Trivino insisted the appliance was not on the day they died.
“The children climbed in and got inside. They played, the lid fell, it closed on them, and they suffocated,” the heartbroken father said.
Even though doctors tried to save Saori and Darian at a local hospital, they died.
The children’s mother shared her heartache on social media.
Karen Tiller Pana posted a tribute to Saori and Darian on Facebook. “Thank you my babies for giving me the greatest joy these 8 years of life, thank you for choosing me as your mother it was the most beautiful experience I could experience, thank you for everything shared soon we will be together how short is the time and how long is the memory, without words I loved them all I could and only God will know why I take them thanks for everything lived and shared in my heart forever until I endure,” she shared.
According to Trivino’s social media, he’s divorced.
Many shared kind words for the family following their tragic loss.
According to the Daily Mail, Mayor Juan Andres Gomez issued a statement on behalf of the local government.
“The Municipal Administration deeply regrets the death of two minors that occurred in our municipality, an event that saddens the entire community and fills us with grief,” Gomez wrote.
Relative Lindey Almazo Rosado, asked for grace and prayers for the family, not judgment and unkind words.
“We will not allow irresponsible comments, judgements, or speculation about a pain that does not belong to them. Today we are the ones living this tragedy, tomorrow it can be any of you.,” Rosado wrote. “Behind every word there is a broken family, there are suffering parents, there is a grief that deserves silence and dignity.”
To lose two children at once is an unfathomable pain. If Trivino told police the truth, this was a horrific accident and one that he will likely never forgive himself for. He certainly needs support, not criticism, as he tries to put his life back together.
