What to Know
Message to anyone who doesn’t write to their incarcerated brother facing federal charges of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material: if you don’t write to him, he won’t forget it. That’s the case for Josh Duggar, anyway, who not only called out siblings he was angry with during his time in county jail in 2011 and 2022, but also commended the one sister who did write to him.
According to emails obtained by People, Jessa Duggar Seewald is Josh’s only sister who wrote to him. His other sisters, unsurprisingly, did not reach out to him while he was in jail in Arkansas before he was transported to federal prison out of state. And, in a post on Reddit, he actually called out one younger sister he apparently had beef with.
Jessa wrote to him on his birthday.

Per People, Jessa wrote to Josh on his birthday while he was in county jail. She reportedly wrote to him, “Happy birthday, Josh! We love you and are praying for you! Love, The Seewalds.” It’s not exactly earth-shattering, but for Josh, it was apparently all he needed to blast his other siblings in light of Jessa’s email.
He thanked her and also responded with, “Only got one note from a sibling so far today – you are it.”
Later, Jessa responded to him by thanking him for his kind words to her and letting him know that she is looking after his wife, Anna Duggar, and their seven children. It appears that this was the end of their exchange, but there has been no reports of Josh’s other younger sisters reaching out to him through emails while he was in county jail. As far as his time behind bars in the federal detention center, those messages are not public domain.
Josh badmouthed his other siblings in emails.
Hell hath no fury like a registered sex offender scorned. On a Reddit post about the many emails sent and received by Josh while in jail before sentencing, a user noted that the emails show how much resentment Josh held toward many of his adult siblings. This includes Jinger, Jill, and Joy-Anna Duggar.
Someone speculated that Josh even had an issue with Jessa at one point despite her email to him and that he alluded to Anna and Jessa having some kind of issue with each other that was not publicized.
“That makes sense to me because both of them want to be the matriarch of that second generation,” a Redditor responded to a comment about that on the post.
Another user had a theory about Jessa’s message to Josh. They wrote, “To me it very much read like ‘we are checking this box because we feel it is what we are supposed to do as Christians, but we are not looking to open up ongoing communications.’ Like he responded very effusively and encouraged them to message more/video chat, and their reply basically was like ‘thank you for your message, we love you and are praying for you.’ And that was it.”
He criticized sister Joy-Anna Duggar in emails.
Josh’s youngest adult sister at the time of his initial incarceration also noted the bring of his frustration, according to the emails. A Reddit post outlined an issue he had with Joy-Anna and even her husband, Austin Forsyth, who Josh referred to as “a&joy” in an email to Anna.
Josh wrote, “LOVE THOSE who are nasty, mean, gossiping, mean, evil, hateful, etc — extend GRACE and remember: while we were yet sinners CHRIST died for us! JESUS prayed: father, forgive them for they know not what they do! lay not this sin to their charge. (I have hardest time praying this for a&joy, etc sooo tough, but I’m trying!) LORD HELP US AND AVENGE US, BRING THE TRUTH AND LIGHT ON OUR SITUATION!”
Joy-Anna was one of the younger sisters who Josh admitted to molesting when he was a teenager and his younger sisters were also kids.
“Josh having beef with his ten-years-younger sister (and victim!) is some kind of ridiculous,” someone commented on the Reddit post.
Someone else agreed, “He has a hard time praying for Joy? The baby sister he admittedly sexually assaulted?!? It’s stunning to me how this guy can find more ways to be a total piece of s–t. Like, at some point, he should run out of possibilities, but he never does.”
The pettiness really knows no bounds.
