What to Know
If there is one huge takeaway from the Josh Duggar emails from county jail from 2021 and 2022, it’s that he’s exactly who we thought he was. As in, arrogant, misogynistic, selfish, and honestly, the list goes on. And let’s not try to defend him, because he is incarcerated for crimes he was convicted of in a court of law. Also, per many 19 Kids and Counting fans, he was insufferable for years leading to that particular scandal.
In one email shared on Reddit for all to see and discuss at length, Josh wrote to Anna Duggar about her attending his brother Jeremiah Duggar’s wedding without him. Instead of sharing how he might experience the wedding at his wife’s side with their seven children, Josh went into how Anna would lay out his clothes if he was there, how he would entertain the guests before and after the wedding, and how he would generally be the center of attention. In his eyes anyway.
Anna really did everything for Josh.

According to Josh in this particular email, Anna was definitely every bit the wife and mother he had hoped to marry. He wrote that, if he was there to accompany her to the family event, she would make sure his suit, tie, and shoes were matched and that it was all ironed and ready for him. Really, this is giving Mommy/Wife, but go off.
“I wish I was there and you ironed my shirt, picked out my tie, and made sure I had my shoes and matching suit jacket and pants,” Josh wrote. “I’d probably embarrass you by not having my dress shirt on and tucked in til we got to the venue parking lot lol!”
The user who shared the email on Reddit wrote, “Josh comes across as incredibly entitled and narcissistic. Honestly, I’m glad some of his siblings won’t have to put up with this crap from him for the next few years, at least.”
Another wondered, “Why are all these emails just him writing fanfic about himself? Is this normal incarcerated spouse communication?”
The email does sound like a play-by-play of the wedding if Josh really were there. Maybe he needed to imagine himself in attendance as part of a coping mechanism. But he couldn’t keep that part to himself?
A Redditor replied to that user’s comment with, “I think you’ve identified why many of these emails make me so uncomfortable, dude is just fantasizing the whole time about being the main character! So weird.”
Josh thinks he is the life of the party, apparently.

He also wrote in the email how he would “steal the show” and have everyone around him and Anna laughing into the night. Even though the wedding was his brother’s and has nothing to do with him, apparently, Josh thought he had it in him to be the center of attention at any Duggar family gathering. Maybe once upon a time, but after the amount of scandal he brought on that family, I think that delulu ship has sailed.
“I’d probably propose a funny exit to ‘steal the show’ and you’d probably either agree or protest,” Josh wrote later in the email. He added, “I’d make a funny speech and throw in some humor that is sure to have the room rolling.”
A Redditor commented on the post, “You know, when someone is genuinely funny and charismatic they don’t feel the need to tell you they are funny and charismatic.”
Another pointed out, “Many of the most unfunny tryhard people I know tell the world that they’re very very funny.”
He only briefly mentioned his children.
The email is mostly about how Anna would dress Josh and how Josh would try to get attention at someone else’s wedding all while Anna good-naturedly nudged him to stop. Sounds like a lot of fun. But Josh only made a couple of mentions of enjoying the family event with his children. In fact, many of the emails that have made the rounds on social media focus on Josh missing Anna and their intimacy rather than missing their time as a family with their kids. For many, though, this revelation isn’t a huge shocker.
