Couple’s Football-Themed Gender Reveal Went Hilariously Wrong, but TikTok Can’t Get Enough

One couple's gender-reveal fail has TikTok rolling with laughter this week after how quickly it all went wrong. According to the viral video, which was uploaded by Indya Jeffries (@indyajefferies), she and her fiancé had planned to use an "exploding football" to announce their baby's gender to friends and family. However, things didn't exactly go as planned at kick-off…

The short video cuts off abruptly, which left TikTokers wanting more

To date, the video has more than 1.6 million views and hundreds of comments from those who've seen it.

While many wondered aloud what the actual gender wound up being, others couldn't help but comment on the tactical approach.

"Why on earth did he kick it so hard?!" one person asked.

"Take it he hadn't played for a while," joked another.

"Why did he kick it like that," someone else inquired. "Has he never seen a football before?"

In response, Jeffries said, "He kicked it that way as he didn't want to boot it toward family and friends as it was meant to explode with pink/blue powder instantly."

Unfortunately, though, that didn't end up happening.

At the same time, a lot of people tried to make light of the situation

As one viewer pointed out, the couple was basically "preparing the neighbors for the years [ahead] of 'Excuse me, can I have my ball back please?'"

"Every bit of this video is funny," added someone else. "I have watched on repeat — it's the dogs face."

"Oh, it gets funnier the more times you watch," another person agreed.

Naturally, many people had the same burning question ...

Did they ever get the ball back?

"No, the football exploded next door," Jeffries replied to one commenter. "Didn't realize you had to kick it down the middle to explode."

The good news? They had a backup plan ready, just in case.

"I was annoyed!" Jeffries later admitted, according to The Sun. "Luckily, I had a balloon to do after, otherwise I would have cried and hated my fiancé forever."

The second try, however, wasn't caught on video

Or, at least if it was, the couple didn't share it.

Instead, they revealed the news in a follow-up post that was a bit less climactic.

"We are the proud parents of a … BOY!" the dad-to-be says at the start of the clip.

Seconds later, the couple each turn around a paper onesie glued to a stick — both of which are blue for "boy."

In the comments, a slew of congratulations quickly followed.

This isn't the first gender-reveal "fail" to go viral

Back in 2019, one mom-to-be accidentally set off a powder cannon in her husband's face, which wasn't exactly according to plan. And in 2016, another couple made headlines when their balloon reveal left friends and family scratching their heads. Instead of opening a box of blue or pink balloons, a colorful bunch of rainbow balloons floated out instead, which only created confusion.

That said, despite their occasional tendency to go wrong, gender-reveal parties are still going strong in the U.S. and many other parts of the world. And hey, as long as you don't accidentally spark a forest fire or cause a deadly accident, these little faux pas are actually pretty funny.
